Info on Zach Kutch?

One recruit I've heard almost nothing about is Zach Kutch, whom we signed as a kicker. All I know is that Rivals gives him two stars as their #10 kicker in the country [...and who knows if any of these recruiting services really know anything <_< ]

So does anyone have any more information on him?

We've certainly done okay on PAT's recently with our long streak, but it's been a while since I've felt super confident about our field goal odds. It would be nice to return to the days when, if the game came down to a 3-pointer, we could count on winning. I like it when I can feel like anything under 50 yds is almost a sure 3!

It has been a few years since I felt comfortable with any field goal attempt over 40 yards. His HS coach must have had some faith in him if his only misses were 49+ yards out. This stat is pretty impressive:

Hit 11 of 15 field goals last season, including a 52-yarder, and was perfect from 49 yards or closer

I know he can run a 4.6

One of my friends in Florida knows him. He also has a high number of touchbacks on kickoffs.

From what I've heard he will more than likely be doing kickoffs for us and has a ligit shot of being the fg kicker.

Courtesy of my friend:

Kutch stats on the season are:

12-14 on PAT's. (one he missed because it was blocked and the other was because of a 15 yard unsportsman like celebration after the TD and top if off with a high snap)

11-15 on field goal attempts. (at least one was blocked I recall and he missed a 59 yard field goal right before halftime with the clock running down in hurry up mode since no time outs & 4th down)

25 of 29 kickoffs went into the end zone for touchbacks.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

oh yeah, and if you add the 2 more touchbacks he kicked last night that'll add up to be 27 for 31 on the season putting it through the end zone. He almost kicked a field goal last night on one of the kickoffs. If it just had been straighter. haha!!

imo, :au: has always recruited quality kickers. i don't know much about kutch other than what i have read on rivals. i think many teams underestimate the importance of a kicker. many kickers don't get the respect therefore some teams overlook them in the recruiting process. i don't think auburn as never overlooked the importance of the kicker and special teams.

He's a great person on and off the field. A very humble guy, who stays out of trouble.

Although I haven't heard kickers get into 2 much trouble since THE FSU KICKER :P

He will fit in Tubberville's football family nicely.

Sounds like a reasonable approach for freshmen--I imagine kick-offs are pretty much the same, high school or college (same length field and no real pressure), while college field goal kicking might improve with experience due to the extra speed on defense and larger crowd pressure at the college level.

There's gotta be some reason why CTT is the coach over me, because I felt we should've used our kicking game a lot more frequently this year. Yost, tho I know is not the most accurate kicker - can make some really long FG's. I thought he should've kicked 1 or 2 in the LSU game when we were on the 33 and punted. I guess CTT wanted to play field position and it worked for one drive. The other punt went in the endzone - ooo 10 yards - big difference.

I felt when Duval was around in 02, it was a guarantee 3 inside the 50. But for whatever reason he decided not to kick FGs as well as the year before.

Somebody help me out here. We had a kickoff specialist is '93. ALL he did was kick off. Who was he?

Ahhh, memory is the first thing to go with age. :D

LSU had unreliable QBs-exactly as you said he was playing field position the whole game-he wanted to make them drive the whole field

Don't forget that in college you don't get to kick field goals with the same size tee that you do in high school.

I believe in high school the holder can put it on a 1 inch platform, while in college it is only 1/2 inch. Not sure about these exact numbers though...

I read somewhere (no link) that ALL of his kickoffs were touch backs, and that he missed no FG's inside of 49 yards. Pretty AUsome....

I saw a article that said that all but 3 of his kickoffs were touchbacks, Tuberville said in his press conference the kid would have a chance to come in and do kickoffs for the 06 season.

Only reason we got him was because Yost is gone and we need someone to kick it out of the endzone on kickoffs. He may get a chance to start once Vaughn is gone...Vaughn is the starter and will be until he graduates unless he just royally "F"s up some how.
