Attorney General casually perjures himself

"In his confirmation hearing to become attorney general, Sessions was asked about Russia and he responded at the time that he "did not have communications with the Russians."

All he had to do is issue a correction after his hearing admitting he had these conversations.  He couldn't possibly have forgotten he had them after what happened to Flynn for the same thing.

He needs to go.

What CNN breathlessly reports -

In his confirmation hearing to become attorney general, Sessions was asked about Russia and he responded at the time that he "did not have communications with the Russians."

What ISN'T being reported, or is so, only buried deep with in the story -

Sessions' spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores said there was nothing "misleading about his answer" to Congress because the Alabama Republican "was asked during the hearing about communications between Russia and the Trump campaign -- not about meetings he took as a senator and a member of the Armed Services Committee."

It's no small , insignificant matter. The FULL question asked was his meeting w/ the Russians in regards to the Trump campaign.

Sounds like Ms. Flores is as much of a weasel as you are.

You're just a damn coward who can't see straight for all the vitriol you have towards Trump.

This makes me glad.

And yet another senior moment. You're randomly tossing out insults, because you simply cannot follow along w/ the conversation.

Homer, I don' know what mental condition from which you suffer that hinders your ability to follow even the most basic conversation, but it's getting worse.

I'm still trying to understand why a Senator from Alabama would need to speak to a Russian ambassador/ spy.

Why would Claire McCaskill ?

And " spy " ? Really Elle ? You're going to toss that label around to any ambassador to the US ? Or just the Russians ?

And are we to assume that ALL of our ambassadors to other countries are SPIES too ? REALLY ?

Moderators, please delete this thread.  I re-posted it in the "thoughtful" thread.

I would suggest that mods move the one in "thoughtful" to smack. Worthless.

When do we get off of the Russian Crap? more importantly the crybaby baby libs in Washington with nothing more to do than disrupt what they are sent to do. Yes it will be a tough 8 years due to people that need a pesifer, diaper....

It's actually not uncommon for ambassadors to meet with people in congress. It's part of what they do as an ambassador in this country. I assume ours do the same in other countries.

Not to pick sides, as I dunno if elle meant it this way. But we (Government workers) treat all as if they were spies. It's just good sense, no matter how swell your relationship is with these foreigners if you allow them to see any information that could help their country, you better believe they will use it.

Is there no distinction from a patriotic  _______ ( fill in the blank ) govt employee , a person from another country, trying their due diligence to keep relations with their respective country and our own open and productive, and an individual who will engage in covert, illegal activity ? When I hear " spy ", I'm thinking double agent, some covert operative, and not merely someone who wears a title of Amb from another country. I see this so many times, that a rogue nation captures a govt official, or even a peace worker, and instantly brands them as SPY !!! That's not to say there aren't spies working in amongst those professions, but are we to assume everyone from a different country is a freakin' spy ?

I think it smacks of the worst sort of McCarthyism attitude, and I'm one who actually thinks McCarthy was RIGHT !!!

Everyone becomes a spy if given the right opportunity.

At least everyone who likes either their country or money.

Two things here:

1)  People will move on from the Russia stuff when full transparency finally happens.  But so far, we've already gone from "No one in my administration had contact with the Russians" to "Well Flynn did and he's fired" to now, where it looks like Sessions and multiple other administration and campaign officials had contacts with the Russians prior to taking office.  And considering our intelligence community has already stated that the Russians interfered with the campaign, there's serious smoke here that needs to be investigated.

2)  Disrupt?  Really?!  That's literally ALL Republicans did for the last 8 years (and a major reason why I didn't vote for them this cycle).  Remember, Mitch McConnell said this in 2010:  "The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president."  And because of this, we got the least effective Congress that I've seen in my lifetime.  In fact, some Republicans were so disruptive that they were willing to let America default on it's debts because they weren't getting everything that they wanted.

Damn some of you have short memories just to fit your own agendas.

Those are valid points but where was transparency the last 8 years? It's convenient to want it now but there was little appetite for it the last 8 years. Eric Holder lied, James Clapper lied, both kept their jobs.

You can't twist the law into well, "some lies are worse than others" to fit your argument. That's not how the law is written. Lying to Congress under oath is a felony. There's not special exemption clause written into the law that states "the severity of the lie will be the deciding factor to whether an official is charged".  But that's not how the law has been applied. It's been applied in a partisan manner. There's precedence here, lying to Congress didn't result in charges under the last administration. But because of partisanship, there's a double standard that only one side should be held accountable.

A news report I heard said this particular ambassador was considered a spy by some in the IC.
