Former Auburn tight end Landon Rice, accused of rape, joins Mississippi JUCO

James Crepea | jcrepea@al.com

Landon Rice, the former Auburn tight end who was accused of rape by a female student, has joined the football team at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, a source confirmed to AL.com.

Rice, who has not been charged in the alleged rape, is eligible and is expected to play for MGCCC this fall, according to a source who requested anonymity.

The Rome, Ga. native has not spoken publicly since he left Auburn in September, amid a Title IX investigation into the rape accusation made against him. Rice's lawyers have claimed he passed a polygraph test as to the rape accusation.

Rice's accuser, who filed for an order of protection from abuse and was later granted a request for its dismissal, claimed she was raped by Rice on the evening of April 12 when she reported the allegation to Auburn police on July 27.

In September, the accuser's lawyers released text messages in which Rice repeatedly apologized to the accuser.

A former Under Armour All-American, Rice was the first player to commit to Auburn's 2016 recruiting class, doing so in Nov. 2013, and he helped lead Calhoun High School to a Georgia AAA state championship in 2014. He was a four-star prospect and ranked No. 8 among tight ends in the 247Sports Composite.

Good for him. Whether his situation is found true or not, I hope he continues to move forward.

I really don't care for the writeup. Rice "repeatedly apologized". The info was released to the public, so what did he apologize for? Raping her? Making her feel uncomfortable in a class? Something in between? Without knowing the wording of Rice's apology, Creepy is telling us nothing.

I don't know what he did but apologizing could be for anything. If he said I'm sorry for the rape or I'm sorry and I know I should have stopped, is one thing. I don't know the laws on rape that well, but seems like if he said I'm sorry I kept going when you said no, he would have been arrested.
