Who is your favorite :au: player of all time and why?

Mine: Pat Sullivan

Because he was such a great QB at a time when AU needed it so bad. He and Beasley electrified the fans. Bo is a very very close second.

Easy for me.......Terry Beasley.

I love Pat Sullivan, Bo, and a lot of players you younger folks probably never heard of (Lloyd Nix, Red Phillips, Jackie Burkett, Zeke Smith, Joe Childress, etc.)

but no one, and I mean no one, ever laid his blood and guts on the field for Auburn like Beasley did. He often made Pat look good.

If you have never read his book you should make it a priority. You won't finish it with dry eyes.

I'm a youngin so I Bo and Pat were before my time but as of now Ben Leard is my favorite player, he took so much abuse on and off the field. I've read the Terry Beasley book and it is sad what he is going through at the present time.

I'd have to say, Bo. He has done more for Auburn than anybody else, IMO. When you think about auburn football, he's the first to come to mind, especially people around the country.

Randy Campbell. Five foot nothing....10 and nothing.

A leader, A winner. Found a way to WIN. Never put us in a situation to lose.

GREAT ambassador for :au: .

p.s. Super Sully is the mightiest Tiger of them all when it comes down to shear Football ability. :au:

Bo is my first, just love, love the way he represents Auburn.

And then sweet ole Ace Atkins, he was my fav in 93 I met him after one of the games and he took me back behind the fence and helped me get all the 93 Tigers autographs on a program, hangs in my AU room to this day.

Karlos Dansby

His senior year was my freshman year at AU. He just had a nose for the ball and was always in on the action.

Who can forget the Peach Bowl play with Dontarrious?

And I can't help but think that him and Dontarrious started the trend of juniors coming back for their senior years... (Dansby, Thomas, Carnell, Ronnie, Carlos, McNeil)

And let's not forget Bill Newton who gave us some of Auburn's most memorable moments in one game........

Dec. 2, 1972......Auburn trailing #2 bama (who thinks they are a shoo-in for a NC).

Fourth quarter, Auburn trails 16-3.......bama lines up for a routine punt, just going thru the motions of another win over 15 point underdog Auburn when........BOOM Bill Newton crashes thru , blocks the punt and David Langner scoops it up and runs it in for a TD. Jett kicks the EP and it's 16-10. Some bama fans behind me cuss because they have bucks on the game and Auburn is now winning with the points. It never crosses their mind they could actually lose the game. The bear is pacing the sidelines like a wild beast.....

Auburn kicks off. bama goes conservative trying to run the clock down. Two straight running plays from the wishbone get only 6 yards. On 3rd and 4, all 160 pounds of David Langner plants bama QB Davis on his backside for no gain. bama lines up to punt, clock ticking down. The bear has moved thier punter Gantt back two steps. Auburn fans are hoping for a good run back, and maybe a couple of passes to score. Ball is snapped, good snap, Gantt takes two steps forward and his leg come up......BOOM Newton blocks another one and Langner picks it up and runs another one in. The Auburn crown goes beserk...but wait it's 16-16 and the EP is the most important one in Auburn history. Can Jett overcome the tremendous pressure and kick it? The crowd is hushed, you could hear a pin drop.

Good snap, Jett kicks it......it's GOOD. Auburn wins 17-16. Auburn people are going banannas. Peope are hugging each other and falling all over. I look across the field and Bryant is furious, throwing a metal chair, pushing players and coaches. It was one of the happiest moments of my life. I still get goosebumps thinking about it.

Auburn people may not can quickly tell you when they got married or when their kids were born but a true Auburn fan can tell you what happened on Dec. 2, 1972. Punt bama, punt!!!

Thanks Bill Newton, David Langner, and Gardiner Jett for perhaps the greatest moment in Auburn FB history.

Karlos & I "hung out" after the Sugar Bowl in the Casino (untill my husband called & said "Are you on your way back to the room yet?").

I was on my way back when I passed a crap table with DT and some of the current players playing. I got a few autographs and turned around and who was just standing off to the side watching...KD. We talked for a few minutes a he was real nice.

I would also have to go with him as my Favorite.

As far as on the field performance, I'd go with Bo. There are very few players in sports where you hold your breath every single time they touch the ball, come up to the plate, get out front on a fast break, etc.

Every time Jordan touched the ball, there was always the possibility of something special happening. Steroids notwithstanding, you always paid attention when McGuire came to the plate. Some of you are too young to remember and yea, I know he's a murderer, but when OJ was in his prime, he was a threat to take it to the house each and everytime he touched the ball.

Bo was the same way. Toss it to him on a sweep and you just held your breath, knowing if he broke the line of scrimmage it was OVER. Carnell is great and Ronnie is a big time back, but no one in the history of college football possessed the unbelievable combination of size and speed Bo Jackson had.

I'm fairly new to AU football(been breathin it for just over 3 years).. Dansby because I loved the way he was always around the ball makin plays(Peach Bowl against UNC) and then Ronnie Brown, just because he's Ronnie Brown!

I don't currently watch the NFL, so who ever Ronnie goes to is gonna be my new favorite team.

It has to be BO for me. His heisman year was my first at AU and he was be far the best athelete I have ever witnessed in person. He is a class act that has done nothing but made himself and AU look good. I just wish he could have had 10-12 good full seasons in the NFL.

On defense my favorite has to be Aundray Bruce, He had some of the best defensive games I have ever witnessed.

How 'bout some love for the kickers...both Jaret Holmes and Damon Duval usually did double duty as punter and kicker and ranked among the best nationally in both categories. And the '97 Bama and '01 Florida are among AU's greatest games in large part because of them. As Jim Fyffe put it..."Hang a star by Jaret Holmes' name (and Damon's too)." I should mention Scott Etheridge and Terry Daniel too; I was just coming around to AU football in '93.

I was only 3 then B) , but I've watched and listened to the blocked punts many times...what's funny about the radio call is that the wrong guy was originally credited with the second block (the announcer said Roger Mitchell, but it was Newton).

What's also hilarious from the audio clip I downloaded is that there is an Auburn fan (maybe the other guy in the booth?) who just completely lost his mind after the second blocked punt for a TD and the ensuing extra point...all of it is completely audible.

I have to give some props to Reggie Slack here...much like Jason Campbell, I always thought Slack caught way too much blame and didn't get nearly enough credit, but he held in there and led us to the most important win in school history on, ironically enough, Dec. 2, 17 years to the day after Punt Bama Punt.

about SLACK..........i was in 6th grade in 1989 so i didn't remember the boos he got, but i was watching the 89 florida game last nite (converting vhs to dvd... :D ) and you could clearly hear the BOOS from the JH crowd. it was crazy. the announcers even talked about how he was being abused and how it had happened in a couple games. they said DYE was quoted as that SLACK was not the problem........they just didn't have an identity on offense. FYI: funny thing, the 89 FLA game, DANLEY didn't play. crazy timing on my part, i guess.

i also watched 89 BAMA game last week.............needless to say there were NO boos that day! that long ball to A. WRIGHT was a thing of beauty! WDE.
