Mr. Perrilloux strikes again.

First let me say that I don't disagree with the comments or his confidence, but with the importance of team chemistry, he is definitely doing more harm than good.

LSU signee Perrilloux responds to challenge with plenty of confidence

After an intense recruiting battle, quarterback Ryan Perrilloux of East St. John set his sights on LSU because he said he can play early.

Ryan Perrilloux plans to enroll at LSU this summer, learning the offense. The way he sees it, there's no reason he can't play for the Tigers this fall as a freshman.

Perrilloux, the most highly recruited run-pass quarterback in the nation this year, signed a scholarship agreement Feb. 2 to play for LSU. If it's up to him, he said, he won't use a redshirt season to sit out and observe.

He wants to play, the sooner the better, and to prepare for an NFL career -- which he hopes comes sooner, not later. He's not planning to be a fifth-year senior at LSU like Rohan Davey in 2001 or Marcus Randall in 2004.

Maybe not even a fourth-year senior.

"Play early, get to the next level," he said. "That's what's up."

This is an 18-year-old who does not lack confidence.

Perrilloux was recruited by Ohio State, Michigan, Louisiana Tech and South Alabama -- among others -- as a basketball player. After watching a few games this season, including one on his official visit to LSU, Perrilloux said he won't play basketball in college.

But he said he knows he's good enough.

On the football field, Perrilloux will have the chance to discover whether a gap exists between his unabashed self-esteem and the reality of making the jump from high school star to major-college quarterback.

He said he signed with LSU because the Tigers' quarterback situation gives him the best chance to play early. Another big reason, he said, was being able to play for LSU offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher, with whom he's become close.

He said Fisher is arranging for Davey -- who was in a New England Patriots uniform last Sunday for the Super Bowl -- to work with him this summer, teaching him the offense.

At East St. John, Perrilloux learned a complex offense on the run. He said he can do the same at LSU, soaking up the offense game by game until he masters it.

"By the end of the season," he said, "I'll be so good at the offense that the next year I'll come out and light it up like I did here."

Perrilloux said LSU offensive players, during his official visit, made it clear to him he'll be welcomed into the race for the job of starting quarterback, despite the head start of sophomores JaMarcus Russell and Matt Flynn.

"They want me there," he said of his future teammates. "They kind of lost a lot of -- not faith, or trust … or not confidence in JaMarcus Russell and Matt Flynn, but they just said they weren't consistent. Sometimes they'd look like gold, and sometimes they wouldn't.

"They definitely want me to come in and see if I can be that person that looks like gold all the time and get them the ball, because the receivers are kind of frustrated because they had to cut the offense in half just so JaMarcus and Matt could play."

Glad he's a cajun and not at Auburn. He's only there with the mindset to go pro early. With the way he sounds, he probably thinks he can play without a helmet. I can't wait to see this brat...but it's getting pretty typical for many of the cajuns these days. Out of nowhere, every recruit they sign is all-world.

Hey Lsuj2006 I figured you would be stumbling over yourself to defend this kid, guess I was wrong.

Disclaimer: Hopefully I didn't imply that LSU is anything other than the greatest football program to ever suit up.

If this kid lives up to the hype (his own and all of the scouts) then the rest of the SEC is playing for 2nd place.

If he doesn't he'll have to eat more crow than anyone in history. I'll be the first one in line to serve it up.

I still say that Russell will be the man for LSU this Fall if he plays like he did in the Citrus Bowl.

Agreed.

All RP is doing is seperating himself from the rest of the team on a weekly basis.

BUT, if he lives up to the hype....he will be a scary QB.....not sure everyone would be playing for 2nd but it would be tough to beat LSU.

Whoa!Whoa!Whoa! :no::no::no:

Now while I don't doubt RP will be a very good quaterback, I don't think this is a Adrian Peterson type situation. I mean just last year all of this type hype applied to Jamarcus Russell and now since his Fr. year was not all world it has been transfered to RP. If Brandon Cox lives up to the hype that preceeded him, along with our receving corps and defense I think that :au: will be a pretty stiff test.

Lord knows if Joe Nama....uh..... I mean Brodie Croyle lives up to his hype and has a Jason Campbell type emergence as a senior, I think that Bama will give LSU some problems. I just can't see a true Freshman coming in and dominating the SEC.

Y'all are crazy...if this kid has just as much toughness as he has attitude, he'll be a great player. Hes kind of got the Terrel Owens mindset, that he'll conquer all...and that my friends makes a great athlete (sometimes ).

I like his mindset...hes not accepting 2nd, hes taking 1st.

Hopefully Miles can keep Ryan under wraps because if he does turn out to be a Terrell Owens type of player in terms of his attitude, it could cause problems within the team. Having confidence in your abilities is one thing but what has Ryan proved so far at the college level....nothing.

It's interesting that an ex-QB is coming in at the coach's request to teach him the offense this summer. Where is that fine line of no coaching until Spring?

My question is who is going to teach offense to Davey before he can teach Marylou.

Yeah......it's not like Davey should be a master at the Oklahoma St playbook.

I don't find his "I plan to compete for the starting job from the git-go" attitude nearly as offensive as his apparent "I don't plan to stick around any longer than necessary to get to the pros--I don't really give a damn about LSU, a college education, or the rest of the team" attitude. He could be very good, and I don't have a problem with confidence--I just have a problem with selfishness and conceit.

Never thought I'd actually be cheering for Jamarcus--but he's looking more and more likable every day!

Exactly what I was thinking. Just from his own words, it sounds like he just wants to go to college so he can get to the pros as early as he can...screw whatever school gives him a full ride. That's how I read it. Why did he have to pick an SEC school to play at?

And with all this hype over some kid that's never played a down of college football, I've found myself actually hoping Russell does well just to shut this brat up....what a jackass.

Jamarcus, could always pack his bags and head up to the plains. Though, he should've done that two years ago. I am rooting for Matt Flynn to be LS-who's Qb.

Man....what one kid's mental attitude can do to alot of people on this board.... I could care less if he goes pro, hes not on my team. I could also care less if hes gonna cause a problem on LSU's team or not...not my team. Hes got a competitve spirit...just because I say hes got a Terrel Owens mindset doesnt mean that hes gonna sign a ball and throw it into the stands.

I dont get you guys, the guy isnt even playing in an auburn jersey yet we have a 2 page post talking about Mr. 18 year olds attitude...dont worry guys...HE'LL GET HIS WAKE UP CALL.

Hell I'd rather some kid talk about how hes gonna dominate than Willie Williams over in the corner blowing fire entiguishers, or a Clarett whos gonna cry every year that he doesnt have shoulder pads on.

I read in SI this week, in a little blurb (sorry, no link, but it is in the SI with the Pat's Super Bowl win on the cover) that Perrilloux stated that he could be a Heisman winner next year, or at the least a candidate... Evenmy corndog was not impressed...

Confidence is a good thing. Cocky arrogance - that's a whole 'nother story. Thank you SO F'ing MUCH, Terrell Owens and Freddie Mitchell, for setting such fine examples for these young guys coming up. :puke:

Okay, cocky, arrogant, whatever. But how come THIS doesn't bother you.

"They definitely want me to come in and see if I can be that person that looks like gold all the time and get them the ball, because the receivers are kind of frustrated because they had to cut the offense in half just so JaMarcus and Matt could play."

He just called out two COLLEGE sophomores. He is a HIGH SCHOOL senior. He just said IN AN INTERVIEW that he knows the receivers well enough to know that they are frustrated with two CURRENT QBs. He's calling out his teamates. He's not acting sure of himself.
