All of you Danley bashers...

First of all,Stacey Danley loves Auburn University as we all do.I am not black, never have been, never will be, so I do not know what it feels like to be discriminated against. You can love your job but if you feel you've been denied equal treatment because of the color of your skin shouldn't you be allowed to take some action.I'm sure Stacey agonized long and hard over a decision he new would have consequences down the road.( I know his family in Georgia, the are good folks)

There must have been something there,Auburn settled the case.In my book that is the same as admitting guilt.

Why can't we at Auburn ever get it right. This should be a time to bask in the sunshine after our great football season.Every time we get it headed in the right direction we do something to make us look like idiots.Who cares at the end of the day if Danley did anything or not.He was an Auburn football great(who took the hardest hit I have ever seen and still walked off the field) He was a Pat Dye type man.Jacobs should have known the negative publicity from this would cause a stink.Maybe Jacobs was jealous that Danley actually was a football player and he was not.

Maybe Jacobs was taking orders from someone else and is nothing more than a thin Housel without a hair lip.His hiring was a mistake.CTT knew it and maybe we should have too.

In my book he crossed the line when he starts talking about damaging info. he has on AU.

If he harms the university in any significant way you can take all his accomplishments and him and flush him down the freaking toilet afa I'm concerned.

Just because the univ. settled with him doesn't mean he had a just case. If you look at someone crosseyed, it's racial discrimination.

A voice of reaon in the wilderness. Thanks. We should remember that Erik Ramsey did some good things at Auburn too.

Stacey Danely is another Eric Ramsey. This was nothing but a pathetic attempt at extortion using the race card. I lost all respect for him once he used the race card.

I'm in full agreement that if he starts talking trash and trying to harm the university, he can plant his lips firmly on my huge :moon:

If something wrong is going on, report it right then and there. Don't start spewing venom after the fact when things don't go your way. Regardless of the real circumstances behind Danley's release, his professional life to this point is the result of his opportunities at Auburn University. Don't be another Eric Ramsey.

arnaldoabru,

Honestly, I see where you are coming from. But I think I am like many here in that I grow tired of hearing disgrunteled ex-employees play the race card when they get fired. He may very well been discriminated against...but its like the boy who cried wolf. The black community has been tagged as a group that does this way too much. So it cheapens the legitimate claims that some have when it comes to discrimination.

Now when we hear it its like "ive heard this before"

i just think all this racism crap is ridiculous. of course, young white male speaking here so i don't know what it's like to be a minority ...............but i agree it just seems like the race card is pulled so often when a minority loses a job. i've seen this at other places. i worded at the university of kentucky for 3 years, and when the new AD came in, he fired 3 people, reorganized the dept. to 'streamline' (same rationale as jacobs) its efficiency. no one threatened discrimination when it was 3 whites (1 woman, 2 men) getting fired........didn't matter that'd they had each been there 10-15 years.

maybe i'm just a silly honkey that doesn't understand, but it drives me crazy when this **** happens. i met danley at an ALUM meeting last spring.......i really liked him. :(

i still believe in auburn, and love it!

I went back and read all the articles and threads and I did not see where Danley is playing the race card. He is playing the revenge card. He already played the race card several years ago. Rightly so it seams.

The local black militia are the ones running around screaming race. We all know that there are elements in our athletic department that are shaky and shady. Until those are gone, we will continue to have these negative things happen. Puppet JJ may bring out all of the uglies.

And most of you self-righteous aholes are mainking me sick. If you knew info at your job that could guarentee your employment or future and you got fired.....

Yeah, I could see all of you bending over and taking one up the bunghole with a smile for everybody else but your own flesh and blood.

Give me break. When it comes to my flesh and bones, you are all last. So let's ask Danley to think of all of us first. and if he doesn't, he's a bad guy......

And to compare him to Ramsey, well I'll say it now, you are an a$$. I played with both and I can tell you, they are nothing alike. Maybe now is the best time to air our dirty laundry and get it washed. We are at our strongest and can make the changes that are needed. But we would all reather crucify one guy and keep the same Lowder conglomerate in charge.

There must have been something there
 Huh?

Oh, so when ever anyone claims racism, it MUST be true ? Like when ever any woman screams rape, ...... Sorry, but in the real world , things aren't so cut and dry. More times than not, cases are 'settled' simply because it cost less than going to court and saves a whole lot of toes from being stepped on. Not to mention the bad pub that arises from a very public court case.

My GUESSS (and that's all it is ) is that S.D. has been getting some really aweful, bad advice in the past, and might be doing so again. You ask why can't Auburn get it right ? Might be that it keeps playing too nice, in an attempt to please everyone, when instead it should be fighting.

Sometimes things appear to be exactly what they aren't. S.D might be right, or not. Either way, it doesn't stop some $$ hungry scavengers out there who are so blinded by their agenda that they'd do / say anything to jump to a conclusion, regardless of fact.

From what I have read, it isn't Danley playing the race card, but Keenan Grenell, Auburn's assistant provost for multicultural affairs and diversity, who is. Danley is an AU man, who earned his degree, then earned a Masters and held a fairly important job at his alma mater...if I were him I would have felt pretty secure with my future at AU.

It was pretty stupid of Jacobs to have fired him and because he is black...there did need to be some sensitivity about how this was handled. In any profession, you have to exercise some sensitivity in terminating a minority employee, if it is a termination for performance, then you as a manager do have to go an extra mile or two to document...it is life. All that this does is to feed into all the negative stereotypes of the South and race relations. If the position was being eliminated, they should have found another position for the man in the Athletic Dept or in the Alumni Relations Department or somewhere...he had earned it in my opinion. To cut him loose like that was idiotic and now we are seeing the fall out from that decision.

I point the blame at Jacobs, not Danley. But I seem to be in the minority on this one. ;-) And to compare that man to Ramsey is absurd.

CCTAU. If the references to Danley talking are about current corruption in our athletic department, then so be it. Let him speak and let's start cleaning up the mess right away. We've all painted ourselves a rosey picture following the great year in football and our perception of a squeaky clean program. We've had fun pointing the finger and laughing at our brethren across the state. If we have a bad element calling the shots then lets weed them out and move on.

On the other hand, our perception may be correct and things are moving in the right direction and the athletic department being run by the book. What then are those references to Danley talking all about? If they are about past discrepencies and wrong doings and are said simply to cause the University harm, ie revenge being the motivation, then the analogy to Ramsey is right on. I don't believe that anyone on this board who is a true Auburn person, wants Danley to "Bend over and take one in the bunghole." If there is corruption in our athletic department, as painful as it would be, let's air it out now and deal with it. But if the department is being run right and Danley starts digging up dirt from the past strictly for revenge...

If the department is THAT bad and Danley know THAT much dirt on it, why wait until now, when his motives are clouded? Why wait until he was "fired"? If he loves Auburn like he says he does, and wants to make it a better place, then he should have taken steps before now. Veiled allegations just makes him look like sour grapes. What, whatever he says he knows wasn't bad enough as long as he was making a paycheck? That's too much like Ramsey to NOT make the comparison - Ramsey said that IF he had been picked for the NFL draft and/or IF he had not flunked his last class, and/or IF the Athletic department hadn't stopped paying him off, he would never have released those tapes. Same thing.

It sounds like Danely, with his Masters degree and experience, would be a shoe in somewhere else - why not just take your resume, some good references and the connections you've made and get another job, instead of burning every bridge you ever had and making potential employers see you as a risky hire??? I'd make the most out of the situation - it would take an Enron-type situation for me to turn my former employer in, and I sure as hell wouldn't wait until I was fired if the situation was THAT bad. If I am confident in my skills and abilities, I wouldn't decide an illegal situation was okay as long as my paychecks kept coming.

Damn straight!!

He is MORE than qualified for any administration position.

Auburn offered him job counseling to help him move on. He rejected it.

His easiest road would've been to take his degree and get a big paycheck from a new employer.

Why did he take this bumpier path?

I don't doubt that race relations are sub-par at Auburn. The diversity on campus is abysmal. However, I think the do-gooders picked the wrong fight. Emotion clouds logic all too often.

Ramsey was a sorry piece of crap even before the tapes. His wife kept him always begging for more. The boy had NO cajones. To compare Danley, an AU man thru and thru who loved AU enough to stay around and try to make it better, to that scum, shows just how little you know about each.

Danley may or may not have done his job. But Jacobs did not address that. He took a big AU name and fired him due to "restructuring." Bad management move. But all you people can do is keep feeding the race media. Danley isn't marching. And I'm sure some of the info he has deals directly with Jay. Jay picked a ragtag way to handle a delicate situation.

Danley asked him months ago. The least the man could have done was to say if I were you I'd put everything on hold. I would have to think there are some very personal moves going on behind the scenes.

I, for one, would appreciate hearing it all now and cleaning house if need be.

CCTAU,

All I know is that Danley made some veiled racial threats aimed at the Athletic Department. This is extortion. Danley handled this situation very poorly and this whole incident to date makes me wonder why the athletic department ever hired someone with such poor judgment in the first place?

People get laid off, it’s a unpleasant fact of life.

BTW, And what you say about me goes right back at you.

None of us have the FACTS. This is all speculation. Let's be very careful about what we SAY. Let's let this thing run it's course. The truth usually comes out....in the end. :au:

There were no veiled racial threats. Danley has always referred to this as retaliation for the lawsuit several years ago. We'll see what info he has. If he turns out to be just another one of your brothas, then I'll admit it was all about race with him.

But like I said, he didn't march. He isn't waving a "black" flag. But all you and your "followers" see is a black man whining.

Now don't get me wrong, as others can attest, I am not a supporter of black rights. But I am a supporter of a former teammate and friend who, from the outside, looks like he got the shaft. If he needed to be fired, then document it. The fact that he is black, means nothing to me. The fact that the name Stacey Danley trumped the hell out of the name Jay Jacobs for many years lets me know that Jay was told what to do or is just too damn stupid to run an athletic department at this level. Maybe some of you feel he did not need to explain. But you don't just reorg a big name individual out that easy. I guess he's finding out the hard way. And once again we have an idiot in charge who is bring negative attention to our program.

And whatever it was I "said" about you may just have been true enough to hit a nerve. But that's between you and your therapist.

CCTAU, to follow up and be clear about my analogy to Ramsey. Yes, they may be two totally separate people with regard to their personalities. My whole point is that IF Danley comes out and makes accusations about PAST transgressions for the sole purpose of hurting the University or the revenge factor, then that will be exactly what Ramsey did, whether he's being pushed by someone to do it or not.

By the way, what position did you play? I always wonder how many former players we have on the board. It gives a more unique perspective than from those of us who look at things from the standpoint of a fan.
