DKW 86 7,175
United Healthcare Corp Rakes In $15.8 BILLION In One Quarter How much money is enough? This is one company, in one quarter. Someone on the Right please Defend this. PLEASE! I am purposefully asking a question for the Left and one for the Right. I am trying to get folks to pause and think about what they are really defending.
TexasTiger 11,651
That would pay for another needless aircraft carrier.

In one respect, that aircraft carrier is just like the .45 pistol I carry every day. You hope you never need it but if the situation occurs and you do need it, you'd better have it. Besides, with the Russians once again on the prowl (or so I'm told by my lefty acquaintances) the US can't have too many aircraft carriers. I_M4_AU 7,063
DKW, I tried to broach this subject in another thread and I'm not here to defend the profit or the business. However, as mentioned in that other thread, profit is king. Looking at United Health Care's profit margins for the last 5 years https://ycharts.com/companies/UNH/gross_profit_margin shows that 2016 has less of a profit margin than the start of the 5 year period. HMMM. I'm not sure how you can regulate what a company makes as a profit. The only way is to shame it into shaving some of the profits by donating to causes that would help humanity. JMO. I have to gets to work, so I don't have time to discuss, but good luck with this. This particular forum seems to not want to discuss anything, just one liners that state their opinion. Do you know how many we have? China? Russia? And you want a tax cut, right?

Check out the Swiss system. There are profits and there's greed.

The Russians have one, that has a third of the capability of any of ours, and it breaks down every time it sails.

It's a great example of our future fiscal insanity regarding military hardware. 12 aircraft carriers won't protect our electrical grid from cyber attack. We don't need to. Trump and Putin are teaming up on that.
homersapien 10,953
And keep in mind that's $15.8 billion (plus their marketing and overhead) which didn't go to paying for actual services. And people wonder why we pay more for healthcare.
DKW 86 7,175
Someone asked. $15.9BN in Revenues, not Profit. UHC reported only $1.5BN in Profit for 2016.
