And he was making serious money!

At his level of experience and talent, he will make serious money again.  I don't think he's worried, in fact, he knows he has a fall back position which puts him in a great position.

Supposedly he was going to "retire".

This is one reason, if I were Sessions, I'd force Trump's hand.  Sessions won't be hurting for job opportunities no matter what.  So if Dolt 45 decided to fire me, so what?  I'd take a question about it from a reporter and reply, "Serving the American people in my role as AG is a solemn duty that I take very seriously and try to do with the highest ethical standards.  But I serve at the pleasure of the President and if at any point he believes that I am not doing my job, he is welcome to remove me and hire someone else.  I won't be resigning.  So unless he decides to make a change, I will continue to do the job I was hired to do in the only way I know how:  with utmost professionalism and integrity."

Let that grind his gears for a while.  But I would not give him the satisfaction of running me out and resigning.  He'll have to make the move and explain why to the press and the American people.
