Can someone please explain the 12 game thing?

I understand the system and that our only open week is the weekend before UGA and that we can't go a week earlier.... but I just read this and I am trying to break it down into 3 things:

1) Is Michigan really a possibility? I mean I know CTT don't want no tough non-conference team, but is Michigan floating around? If we do get a D-IA team, does it have to be on the road? Or would it be a 2 year (or 2 time, with the second game being years down the road) thing?

2) With that weekend being filled, is there no BYE week at all throughout the season?

3) Must we fill that weekend with a game with an opponent? I mean it would be stupid not to have a 12th game (money wise), but still wondering.

I think CTT was just using Michigan as an example. The way I understood the article was: Don't expect any big name games to be added! In their quest to protect the current system and avoid a playoff system the NCAA & the Bowl system has dropped the ball. By allowing the 12th game and not allowing an extra week to get the game in is asinine. I guess their theory is that an extra week would make the season too long. But then playing 12 consecutive games would not make the season too hard. Logic like that is hard to comprehend sometimes.

I don't know about now, but I do know we approached Michigan about a home/home series in the past. Michigan said they would play us up there, but would not come to Auburn. I understand that quite a few SEC teams have had the same problem with the Big 10 and trying to schedule them.

So unless things have changed, no I doubt Michigan is a possibility.

As pissed as I am that Auburn is yet AGAIN at the forefront of crappy non-conference schedules, I am glad that Tuberville is standing up to the system.

WHY do you add a 12 game at the cost of one of the BYE weeks? That's just stupid. Hopefully, other coaches will express their outrage at this, too. THEN something might be done about it. If not, this 12 game thing will end up giving Auburn another Non-conference scheduling black eye!
