AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn kicker Daniel Carlson was named one of three finalists for the Lou Groza Award on Monday. This will be the third time the senior has been selected as a finalist for the award, which is given annually to the nation's top place-kicker.

This season, Carlson has made 19 of his 25 field-goal attempts, including four from 50 yards or more. He's also a perfect 51 of 51 on PATs, and his current streak of 192 consecutive PATs made is both an Auburn and an SEC record. With 108 points and counting, he's just the ninth Auburn player to ever score 100-plus points in a season.

In last month's Ole Miss game, Carlson made three field goals and five PATs to become the SEC's all-time leading scorer. He currently has 462 career points, which puts him at No. 7 all-time nationally. He also recently set another SEC record with 88 field goals made in his career.

The three finalists will be honored at the 26th annual Lou Groza Awards Banquet on Dec. 4 in Palm Beach County, and then the winner will be announced live on ESPN at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 7.

Didn't he lose the first one to a kicker with a better overall career? If that's how they look at it, he gets it. Can't imagine his stats are good enough if not. I still think he is the best college kicker, ever.

If they consider his whole career, he'll win. If they focus on this season alone he'll lose. And I'd say it'd be because of the two blocked kicks against A&M which just pisses me off since they weren't even his fault but it killed his percentage.

Though Mr. Carlson has scored points by other than kicking, he has long eclipsed the 1st (Mr. Fairbairn, 2015) in total scoring (currently #22). Alas, Mr. Carlson still needs 32 points to pass Mr. Gonzalez (2016, and at #4).

As an aside, I'm sure that Mr. Carlson would humbly appreciate any support you could offer in his campaign for the CLASS award (fan-vote deadline = 4 Dec.).

Counts 1/3 of the final selection.

I voted just now. At the end I was prompted solve a simple arithmetic problem to prove I'm not a robot. This will probably eliminate most votes for JK Scott (uat) ?

Legatron: it's been an honor!

Totally forgot about him. Yeah, he's had an outstanding season so far!

He missed some easy field goals early in the season.  And I remember seeing him BARELY make a few other easy ones.  He's had a very good season overall, but not up to the standards he set for himself in previous years.  I don't see why he's a finalist for the award.

He had a weird thing going early this season but was able to correct it. Since those first few he's been nearly flawless minus the two blocks against A&M.

He's a finalist because of the # of kicks he's made, plus the # of kicks over 50, and his continued PAT record. Probably because of his entire body of work as well, though that's not supposed to be a factor.
