End of Summer / Beginning of Fall Events

Hey there all,

We've got some stellar events coming down the line and wanted to make sure you are all aware of all things going on here at the Avenue Pub. As many of you know, we recently refurbished our bottle cellar. We are so thrilled with how it came out that we want to share it with all of you. The space is perfect for intimate drinking and chatting, so we thought it would be a great idea to have you in for some complimentary bottle pours while touring the cellar's new look. We will open the doors at 2pm on Sunday, September 9th-we can't wait to share it with you! Shortly thereafter, we will be hosting some of our favorite Louisiana breweries to celebrate LA Craft Beer Week. Be on the lookout for special offerings from Tin Roof, Great Raft, and NOLA during that time. As a reminder, LACBW runs from 9/24-9/30, which overlaps with our favorite event of the year, Cantillon's Zwanze Day.

As many of you know, we've been blessed to host this very special beer tapping for the last several years and yet again are honored to have been selected for the 2018 iteration. This year, Jean Van Roy and Co. have rolled out some very special offerings. In addition to the Zwanze 2018, we will be receiving kegs of his authentic Kriek Lambic (this is the first time in a very long time that Kriek will be on draft), Rose De Gambrinus (arguably the world's greatest Framboise), Nath (the world's only authentic Rhubarb Lambic, previously Zwanze 2012), Grand Cru La Bruocsella (single batch of lambic aged for 3 years in Cantillon's oak casks-truly old world lambic), and of course, Cantillon Classic Gueuze, the pinnacle of the style-3-year blend of the most alluring lambics-there's nothing like it.

This year's Zwanze is an homage to the Italian brewing community that has supported Cantillon's mission of preserving a taste for decades. With the obvious similarities between Lambic and wine, Jean decided to blend 3 distinct barrels of his lambic together, all of which have aged in either Amarone, Sangiovese, or Chianti wine vessels. The result is a complex, wine-like beer that, while being unfruited, displays elegant and subtle fruit qualities.

After we catch our breath from Zwanze Day, we will be receiving 10 distinct rubber-clad German gravity kegs. These little vessels are tapped year round in Germany, but they only make their way stateside in the fall. Our friends overseas comb the Bavarian landscape each summer and coax their brewer friends to fill these little kegs for specific accounts here in the US. This year, we have quite the haul of authentic, real lager. While English Real Ale has somewhat taken the spotlight, German Real Lager merits equal celebration. The lager is refermented in what we call a gravity keg (Anstich in German) and the beer is more lively, flavorful, and complex than traditional draft beer. In order to pour the liquid, one must physically tap the keg and allow gravity to force the beer out. We love showcasing these beers because there is truly nothing else like it in the US market. We firmly believe that any beer lover can appreciate and enjoy (lots of) this type of beer. Each week during October, we will tap no fewer than 2 German gravity kegs each Friday at 1pm on our balcony. These kegs are small and won't last long. We highly encourage you to come in, fill up your glass, and enjoy some of the most authentic beer you'll ever try. Stay tuned on Facebook (and here) for more information regarding which beers will be tapped when.

The last thing we currently have lined up is a very special event with Piety & Desire Chocolate. While tasting beers at the last Mug Club event, Polly got to talking with Chris, the owner and chocolatier of New Orleans' most innovative candy maker, and they decided it would be fun to pair some of our favorite beers with specially selected and handmade chocolates. Please join us at 2pm on Sunday, October 14th. This event will be ticketed-stay tuned for more information!

Lastly, if any of our Mug Club Members received this email and NOT one with information about Mug Club Member Only events, please contact theavenuepub@gmail.com and zackaryshelton@gmail.com so we can rectify the situation.

Cheers, y'all!
