Virginia Tech dismissed junior defensive end Trevon Hill from its program for failing to uphold team standards, Hokies head coach Justin Fuente announced Sunday.

Hill's dismissal comes less than 24 hours after Virginia Tech suffered the most stunning upset of the college football season thus far in a 49-35 loss to Old Dominion.

"After consultation with our coaching staff and administration at Virginia Tech, Trevon Hill has been dismissed from the football team effective immediately for not upholding the high standards that we have for our student-athletes at Virginia Tech," Fuente said in a statement. "I will always put the interests of Virginia Tech and our team first no matter how difficult those decisions may be."

Hill, who's tallied 11 tackles this season, led the Hokies with 4.5 tackles for loss this season. He had recorded 3.5 sacks.

On Sunday morning, Hill tweeted about the Hokies accepting responsibility as a team for their defeat against Old Dominion. Then roughly an hour after, he posted a screenshot of a tweet explaining that the 632 yards Virginia Tech relinquished was the most given up by the program since Bud Foster took over as defensive coordinator 24 seasons ago.

Thought I read somewhere he walked off at halftime and didnt return?.............facing Duke next week........Duke appears to be playing some solid ball so far this season.

They got their arses handed to them by 0-3 Old Dominion.

If "failing to uphold team standards" is the reason then why didn't they kick EVERYBODY off the team?

Many years ago I watched South Alabama play Old Dominion in basketball.........this has been a strange season for alot of teams.

I actually watched the game as a friend of mine is a VA Tech grad and his son went to OD.

Honestly, I'm shocked that OD was 0-3 going into that game.  Offensively they DOMINATED VA Tech.  They would have kicked AU's butt yesterday.  They got a RB that reminds me of Pettway and two outstanding WR's.  Oh, and the QB had lots of time to throw while the RB had nice holes to run through (how nice that must be).... against a Budd Foster D.  It was surreal...

There had to be more to it than what is posted in the OP.  You don't let a player go for that, do you?   Maybe an apology and 5 at 5 and some stadiums but not dismissal.

You know that ODU lost to Liberty 52-14 a couple weeks ago.....which is all the more reason for Va Tech to consider shutting down their program.   And to think that the gobblers probably paid ODU something on the order of 750K-1M to come for that game....That's even more embarrassing.   Bet the chat boards were really in melt-down mode around Blacksburg on Saturday night.

ODU didn't "come for that game", it was AT ODU. I'm sure some one got payed, but regardless, that game was strange to watch.  And both teams played their BU QBs, the hokies starter was injured later in the game, and ODU swapped out their starter early...
