where's the tempo?

I’m not sure if it’s a rules/personnel thing or what but I haven’t seen tempo since the middle of the LSU game.  Heard Dino and Syracuse are running a play every 2.4 seconds.  I miss the hurry up.  What happened to fast/physical?

Gus doesn't go fast until he makes a first down. And since we don't do that this year.....there you have it.

Yep.

I am not kidding when I say this - we may as well huddle. I think it would help team morale. The QB can get in the face of the OL and tell them to block someone.

Tempo stopped with GM when we were not allowed to snap before the team is ready anymore. That and instant replays on every close play.

And then we run up the middle with the delayed handoff. :(

I wish they'd just go back to the huddle, clap & say "break" and line up in the I Formation with a TE and QB under center.

That would fool the CRAP out of opposing defenses the rest of the year.

Would still require our line to block somebody...

Just curious why everyone thinks we are a fast snap team. Do we do better statistically when we are in the hurry up mode? if so why is it so infrequently utilized?

If you want to know why people think Auburn is (or should be) a fast snap team, this book is why:

https://www.amazon.com/Hurry-Up-No-Huddle-Offensive-Philosophy/dp/1585186546

When the head coach wrote the book on fast-paced offense, fast-paced offense is a reasonable expectation.

You can still snap before the other team is ready as long as you don't substitute.  For some reason Gus and Chip have decided we need to substitute a lot.   We didn't do that when we were running 80+ plays per game.  Now we are using personnel groupings that are tipping the plays.   Gus and Chip are smarter than this.

One would think.

However, the evidence is to the contrary.

Unless the offense substitutes, there is no delay for the opposing defense.  The offense can commit to the same 11 players for the entirety of a drive and snap quite quickly.  Offense is very often lined up and ready to snap while the sideline is playing peek-a-boo with the defense.

I want us to get back to the time when Gary Danielson said "LSU has no idea" what Auburn is going to run next...unfortunately we haven't reached that point since he made the statement, but for the period of about 1 quarter we were running like we used to...

I dont even think talking heads have used that spiel about us being a fast offense since like 2016 at the latest. It couldve changed tides slightly later last year, but it just hasnt been correct since about 2014. If theres one identity this offense currently has, its to be as slow and begrudging to tempo as humanly possible.

On first down, run a play...if it gains seven or more, go fast and run another play...if less than 7, then punt on 2nd down. Repeat all game and I think we have a better shot at winning.

Just punt on 1st. The runs up the gut on 1st never get 7 yards. Maybe Javaris Davis gets his hands on the rock and finds the endzone. Our D blocks better for him than our OL does for our RBs anyway

What rule is in place that prevents GM from snapping the ball before the opponents defense is ready?

I'm not aware that restrictions have been placed on an offense which would prevent them from snapping the ball quick as lightening, catching that defense out of position, worn out and tired.  Attack - Attack - Attack on offense!

Gus/Chip are allowed run this machine wide ass open, "Auburn Fast"  (there were billboards all over the place with that logo.)  Instead, they chooses to substitute frequently allowing the defense the opportunity to sub, change formation & personnel as needed to defend the O.

Not to mention they're "meerkatting" half the time again...

HUNH would be awesome and it only needs one real tweak. Different plays on first down and Stidham needs to be able to make adjustments on the fly if the play is running right into the defense's jaws. Hell, just giving it to the sweep man a  little more often would make that motion something D's have to pay more attention to when it's happening.

I think many forget just how much of a "magic man" Nick Marshall was with play action and read options. Never have I seen cameras struggle to follow the ball so often. Stidham's fakes aren't the slickest I've ever seen.
