Staff Changes

Most seem certain that Gus will not be fired do to the buyout. If the season keeps heading in it’s current direction staff changes seem certain. What staff changes can we expect? What changes would you like to see and who would be good replacements? Will it just be offensive changes?

Needs to be a splash hire to bring my confidence back. Hopefully Freeze if the commish will allow it. I think he will if Auburn fails to add bowl money to tbe pot!

Wholesale offensive changes. I don’t know enough of their names to name any. Seems like pointless research just to prove I know some obscure colleges OC. I just hope he wins

Grimes and Lindsey heads need to be on the chopping block for sure. Possibly Horton too.

Edit to add: you were probably referring to names of replacements.

Clean house with all of them! Don't piece meal a new staff.

As much as we need staff changes on the O, my concern is Steele will bolt.  He will see a sinking ship and go as soon as he can.  I kind of wish that Gus leaves now, promote Steele to interim HC and he will let Chip run his O.  I think that would turn our season around.

I have kinda felt this way about Horton for a couple of years now.

I didn’t want Gus to make it out of the stadium with a job yesterday, but from a monetary standpoint he needs to finish the season to make the buyout more palatable.

Chip Lindsey must go.  Hugh Freeze is my first choice as a replacement - just give him a burner phone and we'll be fine.

I don't think Grimes is to blame for the O-line problems.  Like Bruce Pearl says, "You can't make chicken salad outta chicken fecal matter".  Or something like that.

He is going to be coaching in the Alliance league in February it’ll be great to see what he can do.

I believe Steele’s reactions will tell the story. If he bolts, or plays around with the idea, we know for sure things are irreparable with Gus. If he hunkers down, I will have more confidence that things can improve. I have a lot of respect for him.

I would prefer to see improvement on his side of the ball BEFORE the end of the season! If not, he is part of the overall problem and I will be fine with him leaving.

Unless our Coach is told that his next offensive coordinator has full control and calls their own plays, it doesn't matter.

I honestly just want Gus to be the OC. That way when it's time to play the blame game, there is no finger pointing.

Freeze should have been here last week. Insane nothing has happened. Yeah Gus is likely here for the season and maybe even next but he needs to let some heads roll even if it’s his fault we have to TRY something else

I expect symbolic firings and hirings. I don't believe a top level coordinator would be willing to coach under him which means he can't hire strongly enough to save himself. They're all on their way out whether it's this year or not.

Hugh Freeze would have his own autonomy I believe. If not fire Chip and make Gus run the O.

If Gus wanted to be the face of the offense, he would’ve done it by now. He could easily say I will be taking over play calling duties. Head coaches have done that in the past. I don’t believe Gus has the answers tbh. The smart move would be to fire chip Lindsey in the offseason and to bring in a Hugh Freeze and absolutely stay hands off, something I don’t think he has been doing.

I agree.  Maybe not with Freeze but I'd take him... but an OC with some experience that is comfortable with a run first spread team concept.  Trust me we pay good enough for coordinators to get a high quality guy but if Gus isn't going to let him run this O then Gus should just go back to being head coach and OC all in one.  Hire 2 OL coaches one for tackles and one for inside they definitely need all the help they can get right now.

Gus hand picked this offensive staff and it is a total disaster. Who in their right mind would let him make the problem worse by firing those guys and letting him pick new patsies? He is the problem, its not the assistants. What more do people need to see?

I've heard nothing about staff changes... that stuff won't come out until the season is over but my gut tells me Horton, Grimes, and Chip are probably gone.  Unless Gus goes with someone like Josh Floyd whom I respect but isn't ready for SEC football yet.

Speaking of donations, didn’t Gus just donate two million to Auburn? How weird would it be if we then fired him. Lol
