Yeah what’s A&M’s RB history. I can’t think of too many guys off the top of my head who they’ve produced

Really can only think of John David Crow who won the Heisman back in the 50's and that's about it

Was that the 1950's when you were older, or the 1850's when you were a young boy?

Tank Johnson can be even better

@McLoofus Don't know if this was intentional or a Jar Jar Binks type fortunate slip but...

Jacobs was a way better back then Lester, Irons, And Davis. He just didn’t get a shot at AU because he was behind Brown and Caddy who were upperclassmen as well as extremely talented.

Jacobs played for 6+ years, won 2 super bowl rings and was probably in the discussion as best back in the league a couple of those years. He may have had the best pro career out of all 3 of them which is kind of crazy. That’s why I have those 3 as best backfield. They all immediately stepped into the NFL and were dominant backs at that level.

further more, this LJ Johnson kid looks very talented and I would enjoy seeing him add to the great legacy of AU running backs! 😁 🦅

Don't get me wrong about Jacobs, he was a uniquely-gifted athlete and after some sustained, quality coaching became a really good player, I just think Irons was a more complete back.

It's hard to gauge Davis at RB given the position switch, but he was an exceptional return specialist and was a good enough RB to hang around NFL practice squads for a long time.  Lester was squarely behind Irons, then Tate, but he still had a statistically solid career.

I'm only saying I think having Irons and Lester and Davis on the same same roster tips the scale toward 2004.  Again, it's irrelevant since Irons was ineligible in '04 and both Lester and Davis redshirted.

Regarding LJ Johnson, I really like his film.  (His SO highlight tape is awesome too.)  Great balance, great instincts.  He reminds me of Larry Johnson, the PSU/Chiefs back.  Fingers crossed.

WDE!

This is who LJ reminds me of.

That works!

I didn't remember Benson being that quick.  Always thought of him as being more of a blunt instrument.  I guess I'm confusing him with someone else.

WDE!

Edit:  While trying to figure out who I was confusing with Benson I read he passed away late last year.  RIP

247’s player comp is Jonathan Stewart and I don’t consider him all that fast either.

So, are we taking 2 RB's in this class? Do we feel AG is a solid commit? If so, I see these guys as way different backs that should be able to complement each other well. Do we like our chances?

@JFDTiger80 only if the staff feels the 2nd guy is considered elite like LJ Johnson.

Believe so

Considered the longshot to Texas A&M right now.

I know Bird posted C Benson as a back that Johnson reminds him of. To me this kid reminds me of a host of RB's that play for Bama every year; big, thick, and strong.

Set an attendance record for the 1980 Tennessee game and were soundly beaten 42-0.  Barfield’s last year. Had tons of talent in that backfield.

And PW "Bear'Underwood as Defensive Coordinator. 🤮

Bo Jackson and Brent Fullwood. Both 1st team all-Amercans their senior year, plus Bo's Heisman. That duo would be hard to beat.

This and remember this was in the era where EVERYONE ran the ball, except BYU.

However, Tank and LB would or could be special, especially with a RB coach like Caddy (assuming Gus is turning over a new leaf).      I am believing that until  Lucy pulls the ball.

I wish we would get a 2nd RB to commit to Auburn. I hope we get LJ Johnson.

Unless we go through a fair amount of attrition, we really don't need a second back in this year's class. But yes, I hope we get LJ Johnson, too. Quite frankly, as much as I still kinda prefer Goodwin when comparing the two, I think Johnson is probably the most complete running back this recruiting cycle.

@Rednilla As eloquently as you speak, you are wasting your breathe & time here. a4e has been told countless times our RB needs are almost always less than he wants every year. No differing opinion will change his mind.

This is still America and I have the right to post my opinion and ask questions until I get a straight answer.

@auburn4ever You always get straight answers. The thing is though the answers are often given 1 to 3 posts up before you even ask the question because someone else had already asked the same question.
