AuburnEagle79 2,284
Chalk it up to ticket sales due to Covid. I'm no mathematician, but I think after this years ticket sales plus our soon to be March Madness run, we will be just fine. 3 Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/180620-ad-reports-loss/#findComment-3517730 Share on other sites
augolf1716 22,286
We're fine and wait until the new renegotiated agreement that will include UT and Oklahoma I'm guessing all SEC teams will get between $85-$100 million. Each team get approx. $68 million now 2 Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/180620-ad-reports-loss/#findComment-3517742 Share on other sites

Burgess has been there a good while so he would be responsible for some of this loss also. But lets be honest the reason for the loss is Covid. Losing so much income because of Covid could not have been planned for. As others mentioned with ticket sales picking up, March Madness, and a new Contract when Texas and Oklahoma join up we will be fine. 4 Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/180620-ad-reports-loss/#findComment-3517750 Share on other sites

Win4AU 4,283
87,000 x $50 avg ticket price is 4.35 mill/ game, not to mention box suites and AUF donations. Not sure what face on a bball ticket is but X x 15 home games. Maybe wouldn’t have sold all those tickets last year even without Covid. It wasn't a question if right or wrong the President at that time told him to do it. That didn't give him a lot of leeway. Maybe he did it in the way he did to make a point and get peoples attention. McLoofus 35,182
The budget cuts weren't about COVID, they were about a lot of things. But the main thing was bloated payroll, IIRC. Not sure how much fat they ended up trimming in the AD but I believe that was the main thing. And I'm guessing that the austerity measures might have been a "We can't fire all these people and have basketball players on G5s" kind of thing. Purely a guess, though. AEAugirl 9,666
COVID definitely didn’t help, but we also paid hefty buyouts to get rid of Malzahn and his staff…..over $16M in severance spending last year alone. In comparison, UGA reported almost $21M in surplus, which these numbers also take into account the $23M all the SEC schools received from the conference in COVID supplements. https://www.onlineathens.com/story/sports/college/bulldogs-extra/2022/01/25/georgia-athletics-produces-surplus-after-sec-revenue-supplement/9208222002/ Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/180620-ad-reports-loss/#findComment-3518832 Share on other sites

Buyout was paid by the purse string holders, not by the general athletic budget. As far as those blaming it on Covid, look at the profit both Georgia and Alabama made. 1 1 Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/180620-ad-reports-loss/#findComment-3520238 Share on other sites
