Non-binary Biden nuclear official Sam Brinton fired after multiple luggage theft charges: reports

The 35-year-old Biden administration deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel and waste disposition at the DOE’s Office of Nuclear Energy was reportedly canned after being charged with stealing a woman’s suitcase from a Minneapolis airport in September and another woman’s bagfrom a Las Vegas airport in July. 

Brinton, who was appointed to his former position in June, was caught on surveillance cameras making off with a $320 bag from Las Vegas’s Harry Reid International Airport’s baggage claim area that contained more than $3,500 worth of jewelry, clothing, and makeup, according to police.

I know he was in the service when Trump was in office, but not as the head of the department.  What was the vetting process?  It appears all that was needed was checking all the LGBQTqjfoe credentials.  By this guy’s own posts to social media, he had a dog fetish, had some sort of claim of conversion therapy that even the gay community is questioning, and gave talks about his fetish.

In years past, (earlier that 2 years ago) this would be enough to keep this guy out of the public eye with regard to representing the US in any capacity.  Not necessarily because of this person’s identity, but because he is of questionable behavior.  Evidently, the DIE moniker trumps all else.

Really?  So the vetting process is; has he been accused of a crime and are you the perfect DIE candidate.

Biden is really concerned about one thing and that is making his cabinet *look* like the population.  Let’s forget about putting your best foot forward to represent the US.

It took less than 2 years for this guy to show his true colors.

As a side note; it was only one person, which is part of his problem.

Well, you offered no reason for them not having the qualifications for the job to begin with, so I'm wondering why you think that. If there is something else in their background that proves they weren't fit for the position, I'll absolutely agree with you, but I haven't seen any information to that effect.

The president shouldn’t just appoint (or allow an appointment) just based on if they can *prove* something about them that is disqualifying.  That is giving away your responsibility to appoint a person to represent the US.  You, I am sure, would not hire someone if you *thought* he or she would not be good for your business.

I’m sure Biden is busy distancing himself from this hire, but it is generally thought that Biden took full credit for this appointment.

These claims are largely true. Sam Brinton became deputy assistant secretary of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition in the Energy Department’s Office of Nuclear Energy in January 2022. Before joining the Department of Energy, Brinton was most famous as an gender non-binary activist, and made headlines for wearing a gender-fluid outfit to the 2018 Academy Awards ceremony. The picture accompanying some of the posts is Brinton in the Academy Awards outfit.

Never said that should be the only factor, but you didn't point out anything else. You just said they never should have been hired, so the implication was that it should have been known they were a criminal. Surely if they had been, that would have turned up before they were hired.

Were they unfit for the job for other reasons? Lack of education? Not enough experience in the field? Insubordination?

Would hire somebody to represent you business in the public eye that has a dog fetish?  Who puts dog masks on his friends and feed them scrapes from the table?  This was on social media that he posted.

Would depend on the circumstances. If these were posted to private groups but someone leaked them out, then yes. I agree that if they were posted in the public forum then it would be disqualifying. That wouldn't be acceptable from anyone for any fetish, so it should not have been overlooked here.

A Tanzanian fashion designer had multiple articles of clothing returned to her after they were allegedly stolen by former Department of Energy official Sam Brinton, authorities said.

Asya Khamsin has been public in her allegations against the disgraced nuclear waste official, whom she alleges wore her designer clothing after one of her bags went missing at the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, according to a report.

"I saw the images. Those were my custom designs, which were lost in that bag in 2018," Khamsin said. "He wore my clothes, which was stolen."

In May, a search warrant was executed by officers of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department on Brinton's home, and MWAA officials confirmed Tuesday that following the warrant's execution, Khamsin was reunited with her property.

"The MWAA Police Department can confirm we returned the victim's property and police retained photos of the evidence for prosecution," MWAA spokeswoman Crystal Nosal said in a statement.

"The case is still under adjudication, and we cannot release more detailed information."

An attorney for Khamsin confirmed the return of the items.

"The MWAA returned to [Khamsin] various parcels of retrieved clothing after the search warrant was executed," the attorney said. "These items were returned in sealed evidence bags."

After the search on Brinton's Maryland home, the official was charged with felony grand larceny of items worth more than $1,000, the report noted.

The case was filed in Arlington General District Court, but a preliminary hearing has been pushed to December.

Khamsin filed a separate civil suit against Brinton on Friday, and the former waste official has faced similar charges in Las Vegas.
