Good little girls and boys from around the world are asking the question everyone wants to know: When will Santa get to my house?

It’s a good thing NORAD – the North American Aerospace Defense Command – has things under control.

For  67 years, NORAD has used its sophisticated technology to track Santa as he makes his global journey on Christmas Eve. They will start tracking Santa at 5 a.m. CST on Dec. 24.  You can call 1 877 HI-NORAD (1-877-446-6723) to talk directly to a NORAD staff member who will be able to tell you Santa’s exact location. Operators are available until midnight.

You can also send an email to noradtrackssanta@outlook.com. You can also track Santa on your mobile phone, through the official Windows 8 app online at https://www.noradsanta.org/en/

You can see more of Santa’s journey and what is going on at the North Pole at www.noradsanta.org.

NORAD typically received more than 111,000 calls from 200 countries on Christmas Eve and answers some 12,000 emails. Corporate sponsors foot the bill for the Santa Tracker and no tax dollars are used in the program.

When will Santa be at my house on Christmas?

According to NORAD, Santa usually starts his journey at the International Date Line in the Pacific Ocean and travels west, visiting the South Pacific first then New Zealand and Australia. After that, he shoots up to Japan, over to Asia then onto western Europe, Canada, the United States and Mexico and Central and South America.

“Keep in mind, Santa’s route can be affected by the weather, so it’s really unpredictable. NORAD coordinates with Santa’s Elf Launch Staff to confirm his launch tine but from that point one, Santa calls the shots. We just track him!” NORAD said.

NORAD officials said while the exact time is unknown it appears Santa arrives only when children are asleep, generally between 9 p.m. and midnight local time.

What about the weather?

Officials are NORAD said they do not expect the current weather – including the bomb cyclone – to impede Santa.

Here’s what we know about Santa and his sleigh, according to NORAD:

  • Santa’s sleigh was designed and built by K. Kringle and Elves, Inc. and it’s believed the first flight was Dec. 24, 343 A.D.
  • The sleigh is based in the North Pole and is 77 candy canes long, 40 candy canes wide and 55 candy canes heigh.
  • Its weight at takeoff was 75,000 gumdrops, which includes 260 pounds of Santa Claus.
  • Santa’s sleigh is able to hold 60,000 tons of presents, all pulled by 9 reindeer fueled by hay, oats and carrots. Santa’s reindeer are Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and Rudolph.
  • Best of all is the description of its max speed – it’s faster than starlight, according to military experts.
  • Thanks 1
