Ron DeSantis won the battle, but lost the war with Disney.

In short, while following all procedures and public notice requirements, Disney was granted rights in perpetuity by the former governing board prior to being replaced with new members.

This is what happens when Disney has lawyers concerned with representing Disney and the governor of Florida uses lawyers concerned with giving him talking points and political one liners.

Even though I agree with some of DeSantis' concerns in the social/cultural realm and Disney's responses to it, this reveals a stunning level of hubris and a stunning lack of awareness.  They didn't even bother to attend or monitor the meetings and actions of the board since the hostile takeover of the board.  Just unbelievably outwitted.

He’s an incompetent petty dictator.

This is hilarious because you know DeSantis was going to use his BIG victory over WOKE Disney as one of his primary culture war talking points to pander to Conservatives in the Republican primary race.

This takes a lot of air out of that balloon.

DeSantis has been too busy dry running a presidential campaign disguised as a 'book tour' to be focused on Disney.

Nothing says Presidential material like "I'm incapable of focusing on more than one thing at a time"

Not really.  It was never rational to begin with.  He made his play to the fear and prejudice of the base.

For the base, it's not about policies.  It is about enemies.

Big win for DeSantis.  I do wish his campaign did better this time around.  He is still working to make Florida a free state and is looking good for 2028.

From reading the article, I don't really see how Disney Capitulated to anything?

It looks like the board approved everything Disney was wanting to do in exchange for Disney giving a small amount of land for infrastructure and committing to hiring more Florida based construction companies for its projects. The main issues involved here seemed to be the amount of control Disney would have on how to invest and use that money for Disney World.

The article makes it look like Disney got everything it wanted from this deal.

Disney can afford to look much further down the road than DeSantis on this. Seems to me they're being smart and playing the long game. Eventually the culture wars will die down and this will be mostly forgotten. It's not like they've lost significant amounts of control, since DeSantis dropped the lawsuit concerning the deal that the previous board made that ceded much of the control to Disney, but with anything that has been lost, behind the scenes Disney will work with politicians to slowly get everything back to the way it was. It just makes sense for everyone involved - the government really doesn't want the bother of having to monitor such a large operation, and nobody was complaining before the "don't say gay" controversy.

The promise to invest $17 billion is pretty funny - Disney had already committed to spending $60 billion on its parks worldwide, and the $17 billion was already earmarked for Disney World. This announcement is just to save face for DeSantis. Probably the same with the mandate on Florida construction companies getting 50% of the projects - I don't know what percentage Disney uses now, but I'd bet it's already close to that and probably more.

Disney has way more severe problems than Desantis at this point.  Their streaming platform and recent  theater movies are bleeding cash. Look at their stock price. Their parks are their core business cash cow.

Step #1 when your business is struggling: eliminate distractions. Especially legal ones in the public domain.

I think the main thing (for me) coming out of this is two political views can meet in the middle to get things done. So  congratualations to both Ron Desantis and Disney on agreeing to pull together to do good things for the state of Florida. This is how good government works.
