Most People Say A Teacher Changed Their Lives

Recommended Posts

WASHINGTON -- The most memorable teachers may be good at bringing a school subject to life, making the classroom fun, listening to students talk about their troubles or training them to trust their own instincts.

Or maybe all of those things.

Most people say they remember a teacher from their school days who made a difference in their lives, an AP-AOL News poll found. For many, that teacher connected with them on a personal level far beyond the class subjects.

Almost two-thirds in the poll, 63 percent, said they remember a teacher who changed their lives.

Almost half of those polled pointed to a high school teacher who changed their life. Some mentioned elementary school teachers, middle school teachers and college teachers. Women were more likely than men to remember an elementary school teacher who changed their lives.

I had 3 that stand out to me to this day; Mr McGowan, Mr Fisher, and Mrs Williamson.

Mr Mac was my 8th and 9th grade shop teacher. A really great man who was a wonderful role model for kids. Enjoyed teaching, and gave me a ton of advice. Taught me almost everything I know about home and car maintenance, and masonry!! I go see Mr Mac each chance I get when I am home on leave.

Mr Fisher was my 9th grade history teacher. One of the best storytellers I knew. Again, had that special gift for connecting with his students. Kept in contact with him until his death about 2 years ago.

Mrs Williamson was my 10th grade english and literature teacher. Always complimented me on my writing skills, and encouraged me to pursue something in life that would make use of that skill.

All of the Foley teachers influenced me to never set foot in a school after high school. They were like prison staffers drawing a check and crappin on the inmates. If only they treated the students like humans....... I might have a degree now.

I was imprisoned there til I graduated in 82

However on a happier note they finally rid themselves of that POS Smith and got a real Football coach and I hope to see some good ball this year. My fav player is my neighbors kid Kody (Kold Beer) Willis or Kody Bear , Kold Beer all sounds the same yelled at "The Snake" stadium.
