gabe_96 0
The Auburn program has a lot more talent than it did 7 years ago. The team has a good chance of beating every team it plays. There are a lot of uncertainties in football. We are all hoping our program was turnign into something as dominating as Miami was int he late 1980's. But when the team has a QB getting his first start ever you'll need to get a few good breaks to beat a top level defense. Even when Miami was dominant they played lots of crap teams...just as Nebraska did at their peak...The Huskers would open with 4-5 creampuffs every year..the one year they opened with a Arizona state or a Penn state they ended up losing. A lot of things have to go your way to win every game...replacing a new Qb...losing a Defensive Coordinator...those things matter. Auburn still has a very good chance of winning 9-11 games this year...after the bowl game....witha first year QB, that is a sign the program is in very good shape. Sure I think it was optimisitic to think irons could shut-down C Johnson one on one, but Ball threw a bunch of interceptions and PJ daniels looked very tough, maybe he had good reason to think that stopping the running game was more important. and that if he could force ball to make a lot of throws, the chances were good he would lose the game with interceptions and incompletions(he did that a lot last year)... it didn't turn out like that, but it was his educated gamble...cox threw the ball well most of the game, he made the one bad rookie mistake where he turned the wrong way on the important run...he'll correct that...he made some bad throws...but tubby and all are oing well...the numebr one thing they need is continuity...the auburn fans complaining about the coaching staff is the worst thing that can happent o the program..it affects recruiting and it affects the reputation of the program very negatively. it make the assistant coaches more likely to leave whent hey get the chance as well...and it is always the best ones that leave...because they have all the options....the bama fan base helped destroy that program...and if we hang our players and coaches in effigy after every loss it will happen here as well. Cox is going to be a super QB before his career is over, I was impressed at how he kept playing after getting crushed a bunch of times...he can throw that ball very well. Croyle wold have been injured in a game like that, so would have Jason White and a bunch of other good QB's....Cox is going to win a SECC...just maybe not this year....Auburn is going to have some big wins this year and I bet we beat the hell out of Bama. LSU UGA...those are tossups every year, but I bet we have some good games, you'll see.
AustinTiger 0
I agree. I'd like to add that for the upcoming week we can be a significantly better team very simply if we do these two things: (1) just get crisper on offense. no motion penalities. not so many timeouts because QB just doesn't like what he sees. no QB-RB collisions. I'd imagine that for every one of these kind of things I saw, there is 1 more that only is apparent in the game film to somebody who actually knows what they are talking about. (2) Defense stay honest and keep contain on counter/bootleg type plays. They killed us on that. This is all easy, I hope. And without getting any more talented or meaner or tougher or faster at all, those two things will, IMHO, substantially improve our winning prospects. Maybe not enough to beat LSU or Georgia, but enough I believe to beat the Tech team we played Saturday.
