WarDlowe 39
What did everyone think about the AUMB playing "Rambling Wreck" during the pre-game show? I for one thought that while it was a very very classy thing to do, it kind of killed some of the energy the band usually got last year during pre-game. Everyone was excited when the band ran out and played War Eagle, but then had to sit there while the opposing fight song was played. From friends I have in the band I am told that this is going to be an every week thing, so that means that during the pre-game to the Iron Bowl OUR band is going to play Yea Alabama. I for one would be very upset to hear that. Anyone else feel the same?

AUesquire 1
Yea, I saw that. We were discussing this on a thread a week or two ago about other teams that do this like FSU and Nebraska. Personally, I think it's a great show of class and I wouldn't have a problem with them playing it every home game, even for Alabama. Well, maybe slip in a verse of Rocky Top for that one. RadioWryn 0
From a section leader in the band: The playing of "Ramblin' Wreck" is something Auburn will do all year for each team's fight song. This idea did not originate with Band Director Rick Good, but, Ed Richardson. To my knowledge, the only other team in the SEC that does this is Tennessee. Richardson said this would be a classy thing to do. However, it appears (as did the "Touchdown Auburn" screwup of 2003) that it jinxed the Tigers. Aubie7 0
I just called the athletic department about the band. They were great as usual, but I don't want to hear them play "Yea Alabama". Please, everyone call and voice your concern about this possible meltdown. I thought it was somewhat good that they played the GT song, but considering that GT has been a long time enemy also, I am sure some of the "old timers' almost fell out of their chairs when it happened. Call now and say NO to our band playing the UAT song 1-800-282-1957 I think it is extension 3.

WarDlowe 39
Update: I have e-mailed Dr. Good (band director) about my concerns, and a buddy of mine in the band told me a little while ago that Dr. Good said that they had gotten some negative feedback and were going to consider cutting this out. So I think the more negative feedback the band program receives about this the more likely they are to cut it out. In my e-mail I reflected about how it is very classy to do this but that it doesn't fit into an Auburn pre-game show, especially against our biggest rival, and how much I thought the crowd energy suffered. We really do have an awesome band program here though, I would just like to not see us play Yea Alabama during the Iron Bowl.
CircleDrill 179
Dr. Good is a very reasonable person. And I can speak from personal experience that not only does he love Auburn, but he loves the Auburn band and those band kids. If you want to express your thoughts, email Rick Good and Ed Richardson on it. I can assure you if they get much negative feedback on this (which is polite and not idiotic) they will consider changing it.
WarEagle_57 0
What about the rest of the pregame show? The completely ruined last year what used to be an awesome pregame show. They changed the start of the fight song and now instead of the to people walking out to the 10 and then sprinting down the field kicking their legs up in the air, we have someone twirling a baton, or throwing a stick in the ground.... And the stupid guy that has to get on the mike and talk about how great we are and being so great that we don't have to give our band a discriptive name.....we just have to have someone come over the loud speaker and announce it. I don't want to hear him talk....period, it's stupid and takes away fromt he excitement. As does whatever that stupid slow song they play while playing the "i believe in auburn and love it" thing on the jumbo tron. And there is WAAAAY to much downtime between the show and when the team runs out on the field. Seems like they have to play every song twice....*sigh*

A new drum major is in this year (although Tyler Benjamin, the "backflip" guy from a year ago is still in town, he was loading a tractor trailer load of clothes to go to Ocean Springs, MS tonight) and I thought it was really good. The band has more members this year than it has since the 80's.. I would guess you're in the minority on this one.
WarDlowe 39
I think overall it's a good pre-game. Last year they thought they had a need to change things, and I think what they came up with was pretty good. 100% of the people are never going to be completely satisfied with stuff that happens, especially stuff that's different from what they know. FYI, Tyler is still in the band, he's a TA this year.
Aubie7 0
The old entrance from the endzone and sides lines and then taking off from the goal line running was the best IMHO. That long WARRRRRRRRR EAGLE! and those majoretts running out!!!!!! GREAT!!! The new entrance is fun, but not near as good! There is too much down time before the team runs out also. And I really don't care how many members the band has, or even if they are great players. The new opening to the fight song is horrible, and so is the announcement guy. What is the reason for that? That more than anything makes us look stupid IMO. Yes, everyone is going to get fired up when the band comes on the field, that doesn't mean that they don't wish that they still did things the old way. Also, playing the national anthem and making the eagle with the American flag in the middle, am I going crazy, or did they stop that as well? I'll settle for the rest of it if we can just pleeease have our old fight song back, and not let that guy come over the loud speaker. Oh, and no "yay alabama"! OK, I'm done. Most people don't know how hard we work everyday in the sun, in one of the hottest seaons ever. Everyone is definately free for their comments on everything. You talk about how bad pregame is, using the throw up symbol. You talk about taking out the excitement...It doesn't honestly sound like you have excitement, when you say that we play a "stupid song" that accompanies the I believe in Auburn and Love it. Do you know how important the Creed is to our univeristy? I invite you to look around the nation for a band that has a family like us, for a band that has won the Sudler Trophy, for a band that has the most energetic pregame entrance. It hurts a lot to hear that about something we dedicate our lives to everyday to make better, not only for this University, but for who we are. You probably don't see that though, becuase everytime you enter that stadium you are ready to critique, which doesn't seem fair. We are not perfect, but who is, you know? And I certainly have nothing against the creed, but that section of the pregame show is not conducive to the goal of the band which is to FIRE UP THE CROWD! There was no need to change the greatest pregame show in the country, and certainly not the fight song.
PChamp119 96
I must of missed something... because I don't recall hearing USC's fight song being played this past saturday. But I suppose I missed it. I didn't even hear the announcer say it, which I know I heard at the GT game, "Now Auburn will play the GT fight song." I don't recall it against WKU either, but maybe they don't have a fight song.

OlderWhiskey 998
We played the Southern Cal fight song at the '87 Citrus Bowl, but in a mocking way. This is a bad idea. I am a fan of everything in the pregame, except for a few choice moments. A. Playing the opponents fight song...While my panties don't get in a bunch like some peoples', if it's enough to generate this much controversy (see: Band no longer playing it) then obviously its not good for pre-game morale. I'll bend to the masses on this one. B. Parking the Interlocking AU at the team intrance and playing "filler" until the team shows up...I'm sorry, but Eye of the Tiger, Crazy Train, etc. should not be played on the field in pre-game. C. No cheerleaders doing a Bodda Gettah or AUBURN--TIGERS!! D. The new announcer guy...If we are a "band without a name," why do we have to tell everyone we are a "band without a name." In essence that IS a name. And when did it become the Auburn University Band and not the Auburn University Marching Band (splitting hairs I know). Thanks Band for firing up the crowd, but I'd love it if those things were changed.

I was more dissapointed in not seeing the pregame trailer that we all saw on a thread before the season. That video was great!!! But alas, it did not get played at the games. There is still nothing like the eagle flight!! I wish Aubie and the band would go back to doing the halftime show skits like from the 80s. I remember those as a kid. Loved watching those skits!!!
