As i was watching the game last week the commentators kept talking about the instant replay whether or not it was a reviewable play or not. Who decides if it is reviewable??? ( I know the coaches arent included). Also they kept saying well this play to me would be reviewable if we were in a reviewable situation? What is a reviewable situation. Are there certain times during the game a play can be reviewed??? Or is it the whole game? This stuff just confuses me .......

The ball has to be in the offensive teams territory on the 42 and they have to snap the ball when the shot clock is at 6.5 seconds, oh and it has to be a direct snap to the running back, only then can it be reviewed........ :P lol but for real, they have a group of three officials in the booth that choose whether it is a reviewable situation, and if so, A timeout is taken and they review the play and reverse it(if applicable).

From what I was told, you can't review a "judgement call" kind of play - only something that can actually be determined by looking at a replay - like if a guy's foot was out of bounds, or if the football broke the plane of the goal line. Those things either are or aren't - no judgement needed. Things that were up to the referee's discretion - like whether or not someone committed pass interference or held - are not reviewable.

I don't know about all this replay stuff... I've never been a big fan of instant replay, but I think it might be a good idea in principle. But in the Bowling Green/Washington game the other day they reviewed about 3 plays in the first part of the 1st quarter. I think there need to be limits on how many times a play can be reviewed or something so that games don't go on forever because of 123,620 play reviews throughout the game.

For everyone wondering, here's the SEC's policy regarding instant replay.

Reviewable

The following plays are subject to review under the SEC instant replay:

1. Plays governed by Sideline, Goal Line, End Zone, and End Line:

1. Scoring Plays, including a runner breaking the plane of the goal line.

2. Pass complete/incomplete/intercepted at sideline, goal line and end line.

3. Runner/receiver in or out of bounds.

4. Recovery of loose ball in and out of bounds.

2. Passing Plays:

1. Pass ruled complete/incomplete/intercepted in the field of play and end zones.

2. Touching of a forward pass by an ineligible receiver.

3. Touching of a forward pass by a defensive player.

4. Quarterback (Passer) forward pass or fumble (if ruled incomplete, play is finalized).

5. Illegal forward pass or illegal handing off beyond the line of scrimmage.

6. Illegal forward pass or illegal handing off after change of possession.

7. Forward or backward pass thrown from behind the line of scrimmage.

3. Other Detectable Infractions:

1. Runner ruled not down.

2. Forward progress with respect to first down.

3. Touching of a kick.

4. Number of players on field.

5. Clock adjustments (in conjunction with overturned plays).

6. Fourth-down/try fumble plays.

Not Reviewable

The following are plays may not be reviewed with the use of video replay:

1. Holding.

2. Off-sides/Encroachment.

3. Pass interference.

4. Personal fouls (e.g., late hits).

5. Illegal blocks.

6. Illegal formations.

7. Face mask.

8. Taunting/excessive celebration.

9. False starts.

10. Roughing passer/kicker.

11. Fighting participants.

I think it's crazy that they can't review some of those penalties. The review people in the booth need to be able to throw a flag. Sometimes you can see things from up there that the refs on the field can not.

We sure never saw a replay last week did we.

Who decides if it is reviewable???  Obviously NOTthe ACCofficials who were calling the game.  :(

According to ESPN, SEC officials were handling reviews.

Anything should be reviewable. Not only is it a matter of perspective, but sometimes bad judgment calls are made. If you are going to implement a system, it makes no sense to cripple it restrictions on what can be reviewed by it when it is capable of reviewing everything.

penalites are obviously non-revieable about the double PF on us which was the opposite of what happened...

ONly one play in the game was close ot reviewable...the `incomplete' pass where Irons knocked the ball loose right after the GT WR came down with the ball...

either call would've been `ok' with me.
