OlderWhiskey 998
The trivia question during the telecast was "How many undefeated seasons has Auburn had since 1950?" The announcers gave the answer as three - 1957, 1993, and 2004. They overlooked 1958, when our record was 9-0-1.
StatTiger 3,188
I also pointed out the 1958 season to my son during the game. The trivia question was "undefeated" and not undefeated and untied.
MDM4AU 338
I was watching by myself (recovering from a sinus infection) and actually said that out-loud.
SLAG-91 1,625
Technically speaking, a tie is counted as a half-win, half-loss...if you look at the winning percentage for that season, it is .950. I guess they're using the definition of undefeated as "having won every game you played that season," which is admittedly the correct way to do it. SLAG-91 1,625
I'm sure it was a case of them having a question that they didn't word properly, but that doesn't make it any less correct. A correct definition of undefeated = winning percantage of 1.000 I suppose we'll agree to disagree. I'll cut them some slack seeing as how a college football game hasn't ended in a tie since 1995. TitanTiger 21,581
I'm not cutting them any slack. I said the same thing out loud when the question came up. I immediately remembered that we were also undefeated in 1958. Jefferson Pilot
AUloggerhead 2,582
...A correct definition of undefeated = winning percantage of 1.000 ...180485[/snapback] I think you're getting all wrapped up in calculating winning percentage as opposed to looking at what the definitions are. Undefeated means the opposite of defeat, which means "failure to win." Winning percentage has nothing to do with definitions. Similarly, a tie means to "equal an opponents score." Technicaly, you have neither won nor lost. It does not mean a half-win and a half-lost. That's just the way ties have been calculated into "winning percentage." Undefeated means no losses. Undefeated and untied means no losses and no ties. Regardless. Look up the records for uat & and see which team has more undefeated seasons. Answer: has 12, uat has 11. Got 12?
