2025 Transfer Portal Thread

@TAYLORKEETON My guess is we won't know who the staff will target until the last 2 or 3 weeks in the season at the earliest. That said, with a 44% completion percentage I hope not.

Do we go after the UNLV QB?

Cooper Petagna, on 247's new "105" podcast , presented a list of the top potential transfer QB's expected to be in the portal this week and listed AU at the top of the list of teams scouting them. It seems like the options may not be as top heavy as last year and a little more raw/less developed.

The UNLV QB was on the list and they say his film is way better the 43% completion rate would indicate FWIW @ellitor.

They also do a GA vs. Bama and AU vs. OK preview.

* My money is on Kaidon Salter of Liberty being AU's 1 year stopgap QB transfer if he has 1 more year left and can be a grad transfer. I believe he was a former Tennessee Blue chip recruit that transferred to play with Freeze @  Liberty.

Well I will say I'm in love with his 6 TD/1 INT ratio.

I found this interesting:

These QB’s are not necessarily available, but does show the dollar amount we might be looking to spend.

If we thought spending was already out of control for football and coaches, I can’t imagine what the market is going to look like in another couple of years for players…

That would be ridiculous. So probably!

@AUINSY by then they’ll probably be something like a celery cap so anything over that will be like it was before, under the table, so we probably won’t know the real numbers.

Right. It was only ~20 or so years ago that most head coaches were making as much as these QB players are now

I wonder how long you can wear one of those things before it starts to stink?

@aujohnson Possibly for 2026. While Juju has a better chance of competing for QB1 in 2025, the plan is still to land the best transfer QB for the coming season.

I know this may be unanswerable question but do you feel its almost a certainty we will find someone in the portal that will make us more competitive next year? It would seem a nightmare scenario next year if we do not land someone with more readiness to play

@shabby Depends on Freeze. He went for very low hanging fruit in 2023 when took Thorne while he could have done substantially better in the 2023 portal window & again in the 2024 portal window. Supposedly the money is in the NIL to get a top transfer QB in this coming window.

I know its really early but not being portal follower I was wondering who may be available in the portal next year quarterback wise that we could get to lead the offense next year. I know we have HB but not sure if we want to go with a young inexperienced QB next year, we really need to find someone that can come in that has experience that will be able to run CHF offense. Then the year after that we hopefully one of the younger QB's will be ready to go.

Just thought I would see what everyone thinks, thanks!

No idea about the QB but some of the programs losing or likely losing their QB includes Bama, UGA, OM, LSU, PSU, OSU, and Miami and I’m sure many more. Landing a top portal guy will likely be more competitive than the HS qb space.

UNLV played as well or better with their backup than with Sluka. He may have done them a favor by quitting.

Yeah but I would think most of those have players already in queue to step in. I dont think we really do and I don't think we can go another year while a young qb learns on the job. CHF is going to need to show some progress and win some games, imho.

Is there only 1 portal window this year? A winter window, but no spring?

@NWALA Tiger Not yet. The proposal is voted on in October & eveyone I have seen expects the proposal to eliminate the Spring window, to pass.

I believe u are correct. OSU has two highly rated QBs to get in the field. Daboer has a guy in waiting that he recruited while at Washington. We know UGA has a few waiting. No one really sticks out atm. Still early though

@ellitorIf so, I am sure all of us AU fans are hoping he gets his top transfer QB in the upcoming portal window. I feel at this juncture it has become imperative.

There is just too much at stake for the AU Football program and stakeholders as well.

But we don’t only need a high ranked one but one with on-field results.
