Freeze admits he’s not a good sec coach

He was also asked what his biggest regrets of the game were and went into detail about a few of mistakes that cost Auburn the game.

The first was a possession in the first half where Auburn was stopped at the goal line on fourth down where Freeze opted to utilize wide receiver Sam Jackson V as a wildcat quarterback on two plays near the endzone.

“Truthfully, the first time we did it should have scored,” Freeze said Monday. “Everybody seems to think that when I tell you what really happened, I throw somebody under the bus. I’m not. But on the first one, we lost [Brandon] Frazier to a broken foot, who’s usually in that position. We had to sub in for him an O-lineman who doesn’t get all those looks at tight end. And they gave us a squirrely look, and he did not go to the right spot.”

Freeze also had regrets about who didn’t get the ball during that sequence.

"I truthfully regret not giving it to Jarquez [Hunter] down there at least once,” Freeze said.

And this is why Gus Malzhan said NOTHING in his press conferences. He said I'm not going to put up with BS from internet posers taking a part all my words. I hope Freeze starts talking about solid years and good weeks of practice so the internet posers can tear that apart. You need to make sure Auburn's recruits get the message. Let's burn it down every year.

Let’s hope freeze can actually coach a great game. That would be the best solution to our problem. They got better but when it mattered freeze choked.

the last paragraph is frightening that a head coach has regrets and admits stupidity in crunch time

I've been blasted by AUF folks for complaining about the pizz-poor coaching and play calling. They want to blame the players. Well, yes, sometimes it is the players, but this is obviously on the coaches and specifically on CHF. In the red zone more than once and between idiotic, and I mean IDIOTIC, time mgmt by Freeze, and this situation -- I'm sorry, this is not on our players, this is 100% on CHF and the coaching staff.

And sometimes pizz-poor attitudes are on our supposed fans.

Yet another thread of someone who only read the al.com article and not the full press conference.

I've told you that we have a bunch of idiots in our fanbase that will perpetuate everything negative about Auburn! Dumbest fanbase in sports!

Honestly, I never understood why anyone had any desire to hear more out of Gus or actually thought any of the crud that came out of his mouth in those pressers were reflective of how he felt.

If you are someone who is emotionally affected (happy, sad, angry, whatever) by Tuesday morning recap press conferences, I truthfully don’t think you’re consuming the game the right way.

I thought it was being transparent. We kill him when he calls out the poor play (on the field) and then kill him when tries to take ownership.

I didn’t come to the same conclusion listening to his comments.

I'm pretty sure there is a thread on here where you have complained that the squirrels at Auburn are too timid and not friendly and blamed some random professor at the Vet School lol.

I think the FG at the end of the second half is on the players. They had 20 seconds when the ball was snapped and you had Coleman 1 vs 1 going to the endzone. Thorne throws a ball that is not even beyond the sticks. I have not watched the press conference but I will bet you the throw was suppose to be to Coleman or out of the back of the end zone (read 1). That is plenty of time to take a shot. Then you have Smith who doesn't take his route beyond the sticks, and he is a good 5 or more yards off the boundary. If he takes the route to the boundary the ball is complete and he goes out or thrown out of bounds incomplete (read 2).

Plenty of college and pro teams are taking shots at the endzone with 20 seconds on the clock. I'm sure these guys have done it in HS and probably ran it tons in practice. That is situational awareness that shouldn't even have be coached at this level.

Like a 19 year old rookie in the NHL claiming he wasn't coached to hold the zone on the powerplay.

It's true. I've been rather timid in the past because I have not wanted to come across as criticizing our players, which is a no-no here at AUF. But hey, you do your thing. You da master of football here at AUF.

Nah yu da masta of everyting 😁

So what do you disagree with:

That plenty of teams have 20 second offenses by and near the redzone with no timeouts?

That a paid professional athlete should have developed on the field awareness for these situations?

Educate me on why the thought process is wrong. Now if you say Freeze should of known his players didn't have the awareness to run that offense then fair enough. My answer will then be how are they going to grow if Freeze doesn't let them execute these scenarios under game situations.

I thought it was a board designed to discuss football, not the Auburn sucks at everything board.

So Steve Spurrier did some terrible coaching too and BTW, I thought he was the best of them all.

Yup, that press conference was either the year he retired or the one right before.

Was sad, cause he was one of my favorites... and I typically dislike every other SEC coach on principle

How could anyone decipher “CHF admitting he is not a good SEC coach” from the press conference? That’s a crazy analogy from what was actually said. His admitting that he made mistakes is worlds different from that. People need to really chill with this misinformation and bad analogy.
