Well, I thought this was an actual opportunity for an AU sports team to beat Cal at something. Apparently not.

Very uneven performance by the ladies that culminated in a 4th quarter steamer. Just kinda collapsed. Very frustrating. I was hoping these types of execution lulls for several minutes at a time where the ladies look absolutely lost and CJH just paces and rolls her eyes was a thing of the past. Guess not.

the talent disparity is still extremely evident. I wish Coach J would’ve done more through the portal this offseason, seeing how successful Taliah and Deyona have been. Coach J has not recruited well through high school, but is starting to pick up steam.

still though, we can’t just keep counting on moral victories. We made the tournament last year and neither Cal nor Oregon did. We lost to both. There needs to be some accountability. We got players that can’t make wide open layups playing on an SEC basketball team.

The fact that these games are even close shows that Coach J does a pretty good job coaching, but could definitely use some help recruiting and managing the roster.

Do you think that she could have been limited due to a low amount of  NIL?

I just wish we had another scoring option after Deyona and Taliah. With the addition of Deyona, Taylen's offensive production has dropped this year.

I’m not sure. Barkley donated a big chunk of money to the women’s program recently. I don’t see a lot of teams that aren’t perennial programs having too much more NIL money than Auburn.

There are three targets that Auburn contacted last offseason in addition to DeYona and Taliah.

Kaylene Smikle, who chose Maryland.
Kyla Oldacre, who chose Texas

Nya Robertson, who chose SMU.

They’re all averaging double figures. But even after they all committed, there were still some solid players left in the portal that I don’t think Coach J went after.

It was astounding that Coach J was able to land the two we got, but I would think she is regretting not going harder after one more offensive piece.

overall, my guess would be no, NIL was not the problem. Especially when teams like Miami, Pitt and St. John’s (who have virtually no wbb fans) picked up players that I had hoped Coach J would go after.

A 2 point and a 4 point loss on the road against top tier teams isn’t reasons for doom and gloom. Coach has the program improving every year and headed in the right direction.

But are disappointment and reflection allowed?

Here’s a fun tidbit: Georgia Tech crushed Oregon on Monday, 74-58. The head coach at GT is Nell Fortner, Auburn’s former head coach who we fired to hire Coach Flo. The Yellow Jackets are now 7-0. We are 3-2 lol.

I believe Fortner resigned and stepped away from coaching for a few years

The program had also gotten very stale. After that great 2009 season, her tenure was very mediocre. Change was needed. We just made a disastrous hire in Coach Flo, then stuck with her way too long.

We have a chance in the Virgin Islands to make up for the two losses out West. Northern Iowa beat Iowa State they are no slouch. Then, we play Pitt and Kansas. I think Pitt may be the "easiest" of the three. They were 8-24 last year, winning only 2 ACC games.

Anyone know what Scott has not played the last two games?

She re-injured her wrist in the game at Cal. The broadcast said she was day-to-day and hopes to have her back in the month of December. She didn’t dress out for either of the games this week.
