According to multiple sources, including cbs sports and Hokanson. Great hire, he gave all he had here during the Harsin Disaster. Players love this guy and he knows everyone there is to know in south florida. Expect recruiting efforts to go up drastically in that area.

Ah yes, thought he was a familiar name.

I remember hearing a lot of positive things about him before he left.

Just one question. Can he take over special teams as well?

Sounds like a great hire. The name Roc is a great FB coach name. Maybe he can teach his players to hit like a ton of rocks.

  • RunInRed changed the title to Roc Bellatoni to be new OLB Coach

Returning to AU after winning  7 games in 2 seasons as DC at FAU. Looking at FAUs own website stats their D was among the worst in the nation. Glad he's a south Florida recruiting pipeline candidate but...interesting choice.

Just hope he's a coach! We have enough recruiting pipeline coaches on this staff. We don't need help with more recruiting at the expense of coaching up what we have.

I didn't like Freeze's Tanner promotion but this I like.

Wasn't Roc and Crime on the same staff under Hars?   Could this be Crime going to CHF and saying take a look at this guy?   I know of no connection between Freeze and Roc.   If Crime recommended him, I like it too.

I dont think Durkin would bring in someone who he doesnt think can coach the way he likes. Also, with Tanner Burns now leaving, theres an opening at special teams and  Im pretty sure Roc coached them some while he was here earlier. Just a thought

Of course. Every coach is going to bring someone they feel comfortable with , doesn’t mean the stats reflect the acumen.  Mind you this guy was originally under Harsin staff , who got crucified .

Yes he was on BHs staff. According to some insiders, he also stood out among some other coaches with his work ethic, relationship with the players, and ability to coach the position.

I hope they are right. Time will tell.

He was also one of only a few of Harsin's guys that were retained when Harsin was fired and Caddy was the interim HC.  Eric Kiesau (OC), Brad Bedell (TE), Brad Larrondo, Darren Uscher and Drew Fabianich were all sent packing at the same time.

I read that at his last stop the HC, Herman,  fired Roc as DC trying to save his own job.  The next week the university fired Herman and appointed an interim.   The interim's first move was bringing back Roc.   He said all the players loved him and played very hard for him.   A bunch of 5 stars not playing hard will get beat.   A bunch of no stars playing hard will rarely win.  But, if you can get a pretty talented group of men playing their tails off every play and playing for each other -- that is a tried and true winning recipe.

I can't help but feel if he takes special teams back over, it'll be an upgrade over Tanner Burns.

that shouldn’t be very hard to accomplish.
