BamaGrad03 0
The company i work for: www.mypeople.com just launched our Voice Over IP product. You guys should check it out. Its super cheap and it works just like bellsouth. (Vonage is our competitor though) Im responsible for the webstuff...so if its broken you can blame me! seriously, if you were checking out voip before, this is a great product. All you have to have is broadband. (if any of you guys want to sign up, PM me and ill give you a promo code for a free month) btw, i dont make any money or anything if you guys sign up. but ive been using the service for some time now, thought you all might be interested. Streyeder 0
My only real holdback is that broadband cable just isn't dependable enough yet. I know my service goes down once or twice a day. This is no biggie until the power goes out or my internet is down & I need to call 911.
BamaGrad03 0
Mine used to go down with charter. But it was because i had a splitter splitting the signal right next to my cable modem. fixed it and it never goes down anymore.... comcast did when i had it though
DaddyBoyAU 130
I have seriously thought about a VoIP product - but have been waiting for the E911 issues to be fixed. I know the FCC is pushing the VoIP and Bells to work together - does mypeople.com send your 911 calls to the same place that the phone company (in my case CenturyTel) sends them? (The website is vauge concerning 911). Also, like Streyeder, my broadband connection isn't that reliable (through charter). Seems like every other day or so we have to reset the cable modem - and we just got a new one a couple of weeks ago. I could easily write a monitoring app that would sound an alarm on the computer if the internet goes down, but I'd rather not have to worry about it. In fact, even though its slower (1.5 vs 3) I've been considering going with DSL through CenturyTel because its more dependable - if I did that then there's no reason to get a VoIP product because the phone companies won't sell you DSL without a phone line/number. Still, I like what the VoIP companies have to offer. Its a good deal. Your web site looks good btw.
BamaGrad03 0
We only offer service to numbers (locations) where E911 works. So if you go to the page where you put in your number to see if we can provide service, one of the checks is to see where your E911 is. So yes, if your service address is correct, and you pickup to call 911, it will send your service address on file.
DaddyBoyAU 130
Ah... I was wondering why it said it couldn't service my number (I had already checked out that page before your post) - it didn't make sense to me because location shouldn't matter. But now I understand - and that's a good thing your company does. With other VoIP companies (like Vonage) they'll give you the service whether the E911 works or not. It's their craptacular service in Auburn, my neighbors have the same probs. Good luck with the business though. Aside from my aforementioned problems, I am an advocate of technologies like this. I know it'll be difficult, but hopefully the business takes off in the state.
lukeduke 8
This may be a really simple question, but since you have used the product before, how much is your bandwidth affected while using the phone? I never fully utilize the bandwidth on my cable modem, never come close actually, but I've wondered that since VoIP took off. I have tried a product before a while back and there was a delay in the time either party spoke on the phone and the transmission on the other end. Do these new services eliminate that 100%

We had to try all sorts of different scenarios: talking while surfing, talking while downloading a big file, etc. There is a small delay when you dial the number sometimes. But not when you are talking. And it doesnt slow down your internet surfing at all. (not that i can notice)
