saniflush 0
Best vs memory? Mine is somewhat of a vague one and I cannot remember ALL the details but it actually has a lot more to do with a Munsun (sp) call. For some reason my father and I were over in ATL and listening to the UGA broadcast. Buck Belue was the QB and threw an interception to Tracy Rocker I believe and Munson never missed a beat calling it. The call went something like this.... " Belue back to pass, throws, and it's complete to Rocker who takes it in for the score." I actually can't even remember for SURE if it was Rocker that intercepted it but I will always remember that call just because of the way Munson made it sound. I didn't understand exactly what had happened and my father was laughing too hard to explain it too me right then.
WarTim 3,532
'93 My Brother, a uat fan, made a bet that there was NO WAY we could beat Florida. Well, needless to say, we did. He lives in Atlanta and got two tickets from his Boss, a UGA Alum, to the AU @ UGA game. We went together and spent the night in Athens on Friday. Prepared for cool weather, we carried sweatshirts and coats. It was a beautiful day with temps in the low 80s. (Darn weather guessers.) UGA had a qb named Zier. Au had a couple of rbs named Bostic and Davis. Classic game. Several lead changes. AU intercepted a pass late that was returned for a long td. Bostic ran like a man on a mission. The Tigers won and went on to complete the perfect season the following week in JH against the uaters. Great game-great memory-GREAT season. bammanmr 0
My best AU-uga experience is also my first. A little background if you please..... Growing up in middle tennessee, you didn't get much Auburn on TV here. Add to that fact, my parents weren't into football. So naturally I didn't get much exposure to Auburn in the late 70s early 80s. Then came 1983. November 12th, 1983 to be exact. I can remember coming in from working on the farm that day, and turning on the TV. There they were. The Auburn Tigers. It was late in the game, and uga had the ball. They were at their own 15 yard line. The camera from that same end zone showed a full shot of Auburn's defense, and WOW! It was the coolest thing I'd ever seen up to that point. The D in it's all-white unis, white hand and arm pads with the lights from SS shadowing their faces. They looked like these huge, faceless death machines. I got goosebumps. I knew right then and there that Auburn was it. From that day I've been an Auburn man through and through. AURaptor 1,137
I want to know what you were drinkn. Buck Belue never faced Tracy Rocker in a game. Larry Munson never made that call. 5 years seperates from when Buck played at UGA (1980) and Tracy played at Auburn(1985 ) It wasn't Rocker that Buck threw to, so I have no idea what game you're talking about. Fav memory? There have been so many, as I grew up in GA and have enjoyed greatly every victory over the dawgs. Some great ones though... 1983: Auburn 13-7. Lionel James scored from 4 yrds as Bo layed a great block and Lil train walked in, untouched. Auburn broke UGA's home win streak and wrestled the SEC crown away from them damn dawgs. 1987: Auburn 27 - 11 Harry Mose took a pass out on the flats after Reggie Ware faked a dive over the middle on a 3rd and 2, and was off to the races. That play helped break open a close game (10 - 3) and Auburn went on to win its first of 3 SEC crowns in a row. ( The atmosphere at O'Malley's was unbelievable! ) 1988: Auburn 20 - 10 Smokey Hodge met Tim Worley up the middle on a 3rd and short. Man, what a hit! That set the tone for the rest of the game. 1999: Auburn 38 - 21 Tigers came in as huge underdogs(?) and stunned the Sanford Stadium crowd by going up 31--0 at the half. Bean Leard found Ronnie Daniels for what seemed like a 1000 yards and a dozen touchdowns.

TigerOne 1,307
we lost the game but not the war, protect the house. A lot of crying after this one.. in 1986 20-16 upset of Auburn. In his book "Auburn-Georgia Football", George Scherer describes the scene like this: "Jubilant Georgians, frustrated by three straight losses to Auburn, raced on the field to celebrate. Ignoring repeated demands to clear the field, the frantic fans began tearing up pieces of turf, while those remaining in the stands cheered them on. At that point, Auburn officials resorted to a long-standing, but never used policy of turning on the sprinkler system in hopes of controlling the crowd. Fights broke out, bottles and flower pots were thrown. With those remaining in the stands growing more rowdy, the sprinklers were turned on them as well. At least 38 fans were escorted from the field in handcuffs and one of them on a stretcher." Scherer goes on to tell an interesting story about who decided to turn the hoses on the Dawgs: "Ironically, the man who ordered the sprinklers turned on was Auburn Director of Operations Kermit Perry, who graduated from Georgia and was business manager in the athletic department there from 1971-79. Perry even went to Dooley and advised him about what they were going to do, but in his excitement over the victory, Dooley was in no position to understand the situation. 'Kermit Perry came up to me...and said something about using the hoses,' Dooley said recently. 'I said "All right, that's fine"'". (You know old Vince is an Auburn grad, maybe that's his way of saying "War Eagle") and this punch to the gut, there was nothing left after this one November 16, 1996 -- Georgia defeated Auburn, 56-49, in four overtimes And we beat them in 2000 in two OT's I believe , which is also the last time the two were on ESPN at night. Tigermike 3,840
1993 - I met Lewis Grizzard before the game. Had my picture taken with him and now after four moves I can't find it. 1999: Auburn 38 - 21 Tigers came in as huge underdogs(?) and stunned the Sanford Stadium crowd by going up 31--0 at the half. Ben Leard found Ronnie Daniels for what seemed like a 1000 yards and a dozen touchdowns. Ronney Daniels goes wild. You guys nailed it with those descriptions. I was sitting in a Mississippi casino playing poker and there were two GA Dog fans playing at the table. They were running their mouths about how GA was going to kill AU. I was defending the Tigers and finally the three of us made a $100.00 bet on the game. By half time almost everyone in the poker room was cheering for AUBURN! Remember that long TD where every player on the GA defense (and several off the bench) got a hand on Daniels? Before half time I told those guys I would give them 15 points and double the bet if they wanted. They didn't/

80Tiger 907
I think saniflush has a couple of memories intermingled. In 1979 AU went to GA. Buck Belue was hot shot freshman QB. All GA had to do was win and they go to Sugar bowl. On either the first or second play , Frank Warren broke though the line and smothered Belue. Clean play but Belue was hurt and did not play the rest of the day. Then two guys named Joe Cribbs and James Brooks took over and AU wins the game. Went with a bunch of friends to Athens and had a great time. By the way, our victory put UA in Sugar Bowl. The other memory that saniflush may be intermingle was with GA Tech. AU was playing GT in ATL in early to mid eighties. Aundray Bruce intercepted a pass and ran it back for a touchdown.

WarTim 3,532
I drove from NC to AU for the '86 game. It was a VERY long ride home. (I got out when I saw the HOSES!) p.s. abrnfanatc 6
My favorite memory was in '97. We were fortunate enough to get tickets in the Auburn section on the 20 yard line. We were on the top row of Auburn fans, and all I kept hearing before the game was about Auburn having lost to MSU last time out and how the "Big Dogs" were gonna bite us harder. Shryl Bowden was a couple of rows in front of us, and thinking back, I should have seen the writing on the wall. She looked petrified the entire game until it was finally over, and then she looked like someone had given her a $10,000,000 check or something. That was the strangest start to an AU/GA game though. On the first play from scrimmage, Georgia lost Hines Ward and Auburn lost Jimmy Brumbaugh. I think Ward came back later, but it didn't matter...the Tigers cruised to victory. In the '87 game, either Nate Hill or Robert 'Pig' Goff made an interception that set up a T.D. on the very next play, I think. In that same year, Tracy recovered a fumble in the end zone caused by Aundrey Bruce. That game was against though. I think Aundrey ended the game vs by taking an int all the way back, as the clock ran out. p.s. Just for the record, Brent Fullwood's forward progress was NOT stopped and he DID score! Ya got that right! It was an open field hit where Brent never went down, never stopped his legs churnin', and he spun away from the hapless D for an awesome TD. Great effort ruined by a incompetent SEC referee. My, how some things never change.
Grider 1
1986 - AU-GA was my first Auburn football game! I was 9 at the time. Hell of a way to start my attendance at college football games. 2004 - I get emotional about that game. JHS was rockin like the 89 Iron Bowl. The unannounced F-16 flyover, the eagle, the Reggie Brown hit, the general asswhoopin.
weaglewagon 1
WORST MEMORY: 1996 UGA. my first game AU-UGA contest. freshman year on the plains. 4 OT's, nuff said. no way that guy should've caught the ball & dove into the EZ. i get sick thinking about it. only consolation was we went to my friend's dorm afterwards to watch the conclusion of the Bama-MSU game. Go State, 17-16! BEST MEMORY: 1999 in Athens. Ben Leard & Ronny D. went with my best friend, his fiance/wife, and jim beam. ahhh....good times. remember standing on a picnic table postgame, using a section of the 'hedges' as a toothpick, singing the fight song. dbwau95 0
1993 - James Bostic (my all-time favorite Auburn Tiger) gets benched in favor of Stephen Davis, and responds by coming off the bench to steamroll through UGA, then explodes in the second half vs. uat (including the unforgettable 70-yd TD run to seal the win - that, especially with Fyffe's call - is one of my all-time favorite AU football moments), and Auburn finishes 11-0. 1995 - Although not a classic, the game was exciting, with Fred Beasley taking a late screen pass down the sidelines to deny a game effort by Hines Ward, then the Dawgs' impromptu QB. For me, though, this one's memorable because it was SO COLD. It was a night game, and the weather during the day was relatively mild. As it got later, however, the wind picked up, and . . . yeesh. Don't recall the actual temps being that low, but, with the wind, it was brutal. (David Housel actually refers to this as the second coldest AU game ever - behind the '93 snow bowl at Arkansas.) Two distinct memories, in particular: (1) Sanford Stadium running completely out of coffee and hot chocolate before the game even started; and (2) one of my poor buddies having to sit through the whole game, shivering, without his coat b/c he had to give it to his girlfriend, who didn't bring one. AUfan88 0
2004-Gameday was there and not only was it the biggest game in Auburn in how many years, but we beat the living hell out of them. By the way, my birthday is the week of Auburn-Georgia and me and my dad getting tickets to that game(Face Value from my math tutor), completely overshadowed my birthday. That entire week, I just was so pumped for that game and my birthday did not even matter nearly as much. One thing I remember about the Monday after that game was walking into my high school and the first thing one of my friends that is an Auburn fan said was a big WAR DAMN EAGLE! P.S. After Mr. Shockley watched David Greene get planted into the ground over and over last year, now it is his turn.
