Jenny AU-92 0
A friend of mine from work has a child who just spent quite a while in Texas Children's Hospital. Fortunately, things are improving for them. While he was there, he came across this charity which operates for the benefit of children's hospitals across the U.S. It is not a typical charity in that there are NO overhead or administrative costs. Basically, some self-described geeks put together a website for these hospitals to build "wish lists" of toys and other things they would like to have for the kids in their care. You go on line and order through the website, usually though Amazon, and the gift is shipped right to the hospital. No middleman. I thought I would share my friend's email, and this website for those of you who may be so inclined... Every year around the Holiday Season I make an effort to try and spread the word about a particular charity that I think does a lot of good for kids in children's hospitals across the nation called Child's Play (http://www.childsplaycharity.org/). The goal of the program is to provide toys and games to sick kids whose conditions require them to live in a hospital. With the time we spent with Avery in the hospital this year, this seemed to especially hit home for me. I encourage everyone to consider purchasing one toy for a sick child this year. You purchase the toys from Amazon.com and they are shipped directly to the hospital, so you know that what you buy is getting there. Just visit the website above and click on the hospital of your choice (Texas Children's is listed) to begin.Thank you and please pass the word along to anyone else who might be interested in donating. -Jeremy
