Nix floats one for Sanders, OH, he caught it!

You took mine!

I still have that Lawyer Tillman end-around on VCR tape somewhere in a box in the attic. The Nix to Sanders and the Tillman are the ones that I think of first. I'll never forget that we were trying to call a timeout on the Tillman reverse to get the right personnel in for that play. Just think what could have happened if we would have gotten that timeout and somebody else besides that big ole' TE Lawyer Tillman would have gotten the ball?

I can't recall any great Lionel James moments, but I know there was some. I was just a kid, so my :au: memories are not as good from that era as they are from being an adult. Can anybody recall a good Lionel James moment. LJ was the smallest guy with the biggest heart!

I didn't hear the radio calls, but I can suggest a few plays that might have produced a memorable call.

1) 1982 vs :uga: : Lionel goes 87 for a TD, 3d longest TD run from scrimmage in :au: history.

2) 1982 vs. Ala.: Lionel scores first TD on 14 yd run after Tim Drinkard's fumble return.

3) 1983 vs. :uga: : Lionel scores the only :au: TD in the 13-7 win that clinched the first SEC Championship in 26 years.

Lionel also had long runs for touchdowns against MSU in 1982 and 1983. He also threw a long pass to Bo Jackson in the 1982 Tennessee game.

One that you won't find in the record books: Little Train ran 94 for a touch, just before the half against Southern Miss. Unfortunately, Tommy Agee was called for a needless clip about the USM 15, so the score didn't count. Would have been the longest run for a TD in Auburn history. :ut:

4) Almost forgot, and this may be the best of all: Lionel scored the winning TD against FSU in 1983 on a fourth down play; pass from Randy Campbell.

Thanks Whiskey. I knew some of you older guys would come through for me. I was only 9-10 when Little Train was there, but he was my favorite player during that time. I remember watching some Chargers games when he got drafted.

I met Lionel a few weeks ago at an AU game. Talked to him for a while on the sidelines. I was struck by how small in stature he was. The stats that had him at 5-9 were really stretching it.

He was always one of my favorite players and I told him so. I thanked him for what he had meant to Auburn and told him how important I believe he was to building everything we saw around us -- from the atmosphere to the stadium itself. He was one of the most humble, self effacing, nice people I have ever met.

I'm proud he is an Auburn man and grateful for his years in Orange and Blue.

I'm older than you.

Does that change the paradigm?

Lionel and I were Lab Partners in Physics for two quarters while at :au:

He is not 5-9, the SID Lied! :big:

He is a great guy. I knew CTB was not going to make it when Lionel quit after one eason working with CTB as a recievers? coach. There aint no quit in that man. Something he saw in CTB made him want to leave :au: It had to be something pretty bad.

Bowden was a complete assdangle.

From his first year to his third, the man's personality changed drastically. That first-year success went to his head and he had no idea how to handle it. It ruined him. As much as I hate to say it, I think that in the right situation, he could have evolved into a pretty decent coach. But he got too much, too fast at Auburn and wasn't ready for all that came with it.

I'd like to see Lionel back in some capacity with AU. And you're right, if he's brushing 5-6 I'd be surprised. Carnell is smaller than you'd think, too, though.

That was the Iron Bowl following ray "the genius" perkins statement that the game did not mean as much to Dye becuase he didn't play for AU or uat and couldn't understand the importance of the game.

I guess that ray understood what Coach Dye meant when he said WIN after that one.:lol::lol:
