Pathetic '92 Bama O Got MNC

Average offenses compete for national championships in college football all the time. Has everybody forgotten how below average Bama's offense was when they won the Nat'l Championship in 1992? Not only were there games that year where their offense didn't score a touchdown, but it took chokes on 2 or 3 occasions by opponents for Bama's record to remain unblemished (most notably on more than one occasion opposing kickers kicking chip shots that would have won the game practically into the back of offensive lineman). Yet nobody remembers the sucky O, just the good D. With "sports information offices" like Bamas and Notre Dame's, the press historically gets totally lulled to sleep and constantly redirected to the great, awesome, unprecedented defense of the century propaganda. Oklahoma also pulled that one off a few years back. (For the first half against FSU it wasn't clear if the Nat'l championship game would see any offense...and it was because the OFFENSES SUCKED). In the '92 Sugar Bowl it was obvious Gino Toretta was probably the most overrated Heisman winner in modern times and so on. As we saw last year with our own lack of punch w/ the sports press, to contend for a MNC it's as important to be lucky and have the press believing your low scoring games are because you (and apparently all your opponenets) have really good defenses, as it is to, uh, not suck.

Incidentally, I've seen more Bama caps in Tallahassee in the last month than I saw here the last 6 years. The sunshine fans are coming out in the Sunshine State.

And the point of this thread is? Look, Alabama won the national championship in '92 handily against a great Miami team. Seeing as it was 13 years ago, what is the point of talking smack about the team then? I personally do not see them going undefeated so the similarities will end there.

I saw Bama play many times in 1992 and have watched them this year. There is a HUGE difference in this years team and the 1992 team. The 92 team actually had a good offense, but Stallings did not like to throw the ball much and ran a very conservative offense, but they could score when they really wanted to score. Can't say the same thing about this years team.
