The University of Georgia has many traditions that run parallel to cross-state rival Auburn University’s traditions. For instance, the UGA band plays the fight song “Glory, Glory to Ole Georgia,” while the AU band can be heard playing “Glory, Glory to Ole Auburn.” The University of Georgia is famed for “playing between the hedges.” Meanwhile Auburn has also played between “hedges” for many years at Jordan-Hare Stadium. One of the most beloved Auburn figures, Pat Dye, was a UGA football player, while one of the most beloved UGA figures, Vince Dooley, was an Auburn football player. The parallels are striking.

However, no one could’ve predicted the tragedy that has befallen this beloved figure in Georgia athletics.

In a tragic accident, Uga’s life was cut short today after a brief attempt to duplicate the amazing feats of Auburn’s mascot, Tiger. Uga’s trainers, while trying to create a new gameday tradition, decided that it was time Uga, too, circled the field prior to the Bulldogs taking the field. The took him to the second upper deck of Sanford Stadium and let him “fly.”

UGA is survived by two puppies and a bitch named Trixie.
