Ex-Panther commits to Auburn, where he wanted to be all along

Published on: 07/25/06

Former Parkview linebacker Marshall "Scottie" Williams has committed to Auburn.

Williams, who transferred to Southwest DeKalb this summer, started three games at defensive end last year while Greg Billinger (who would later sign with Vanderbilt) was injured. But Williams has made enough of an impression on the camp circuit to get an offer from the school he really wanted.

"The opportunity I was given, I made the best of it," said Williams, who participated in two Auburn camps this year.

Williams, rated the 32nd-best prospect in Georgia by Rivals.com, also received offers from North Carolina, Vanderbilt, Memphis and Tulane.

"Auburn was the place I wanted to be," Williams said.

"I love the school and I love the coaches."

He's also close to one Auburn player in particular, running back Brad Lester, who graduated from Parkview.

Williams also liked the defensive scheme Auburn runs.

"It's a real fast-paced defense, the linebackers aren't too big, just speedy and fast and that's what I was looking for," Williams said. "I don't mind picking up weight for college, but I don't want to be forced to do it just to be in a certain defense."

Williams is 6-foot-3, 205 pounds. Auburn recruited him as an outside linebacker.
