BATTLE CREEK, Mich. - An explosion rocked a Post cereal plant early Thursday, killing one worker and injuring another, authorities said.

The cause of the early morning blast was under investigation.

The explosion occurred in a steam tank and sent debris through a cinder block wall, severing the leg of a man in his early 30s, said Battle Creek Police Chief David Headings. He died at the scene.

An woman hit by the debris was taken to a hospital and was expected to fully recover, Headings said.

Cereal processing equipment was being restarted after a power failure, said Cathy Pernu, a spokeswoman for plant owner Kraft Foods.

The killed worker had been with the company for 11 years, Pernu said.

"Our hearts go out to his family," Pernu said. "This is a terrible tragedy for our plant."
