Ahhhh YES! It is THAT time of year once again. The ONLY time of the season that I actually have an important role to play on this board. That right...It's gettin' close to NIP CALLIN' TIME ! ! !

The NIP was officially called AUG. 15th last season. It is really HOT right now and those Fall Saturdays on the Plains seem far away...BUT...It is only 29 days 'till Kickoff!!!

So let's hear it gang! Ponit out any of those "signs" (sights-sounds-smells) that let you know THAT time of year is near.

The WATCH is ON ! ! !

WDE!

Tim

High school practice is starting Monday for most places. That has got to be worth something.

Plus I get up real early and in front of my barn there is this one little spot that I sometimes feel a hint of a cool wisp of air.

Remember, THE NIP is not just about temperature or humidity. It is the smell of burning leaves, fresh cut grass, a slightly different look of the horizon at sunset. Come on gang, get at it!....only 13 days away from the Callin' of the Nip in'06.....It simply can't be too far away!

The portapotty trailers are going up around campus......sure sign the NIP is comin'.

I felt nothing of the coming fall today and yesterday while playing in a golf tournament in South Alabama; only thing burning here was me under the hot sun. :)

I think next week when I am back at work and hear the whistles of Opelika's football practice across the road will really start bringing it home.

The Opelika band has been practicing outside for about two weeks now. Hearing the bass drums during their practice makes me smile. Sometimes you see a majorette or two out twirling their batons around in the afternoon. Those things make me start thinking of football.

I know the weather is not the only element involved in calling the nip, but I sure am not seeing or feeling any other signs of the Nip. Heck, it might be a last minute Nip calling this year. Like when you smell the smoke from that first tailgate grill. Who knows.

As far as the weather goes, I do hope it cools off here soon. Watching football when it is in the 80s or 90s just does not feel right.

I'm property manger for a small complex. The band plays directly behind said complex. They're practicing every day for the past week. Get you some of a full band playing at 8:00 a.m. while all these drunkin' college students sleep. It brings a tear to my eye! I was there not too long ago!

Not really sure what type grass it is, but, the "seeds" or spors rise high above the top of the grass. This takes place in the Fall.

I saw some of this in my lawn this morning.

Yeah a heat wave all this week in South Carolina-but I am coming to Auburn on Friday to personally search for signs of the Nip- After slipping away from Tiger Mom, I will probably start looking for the Nip at the Moores Mill pool on my way to play golf. B)

i have to say in the willamette valley of oregon the nip occured several days ago. i have been in oregon for 10 years and i have not seen fog in july until this year. i usually see it start in september. other unusual things include: birds gorging on insects, two mornings of crisp cool marine air and dew on the grass. things like the described don't occur until late august or september.

what about you loggerhead?

Please excuse my ignorance on the grass issue. ANYTHING that grows on my lawn...weeds - clover...etc...

is welcome. If it is green, I fertilize it. I have a miserable time getting anything to grow in my yard since we did some heavy remodeling a few years back, Once, this lawn was a very beautiful St. Augustine carpet.

Those days are GONE!
