Yes, I actually cried...

it still angers me that nothing has been done at auburn to remember him. The press box should have been named after him. But they need to do something to honor him.

I thought the press box was named after him? Maybe I just assumed that it was already. You sure nothing's been done ? That does sound ridiculous.

You're right! I had bonked on that piont. Jeeze.... my mind is slipping. The only reason I can think of is that they'd want to show some respect toward Rod by allowing him some time to fill in the position of new guy behind the mic. Not saying I agree w/ that or even that it makes much sense, but for lack of any official reason..I'm left to my own devices. As unbelievable as it may sound, we might have to start some sort of grass roots drive to get something done.

I'm e-mailing the A.D. for an answer. Screw waiting.

I am going to break this down real slow for everyone again.

Jim Fyffe (and there is no one that was a bigger fan than myself) was neither a graduate nor an employee of Auburn University.

On the other hand, there was no bigger unofficial supporter of Auburn University athletics than Jim Fyffe. However, that does not automatically include him to some sort of divine right to have a building on a public university, of which he was neither a graduate nor an employee, named after him. It would be akin to naming the sidelines at Jordan Hare for Kevin Strickland because he wrote some awesome articles and ran step for step with Brian Robinson (or Fred Smith or some other DB) during the LSU game in 1994. Kevin loves Auburn more than I do (which is difficult, but I believe it to be so), but he doesn't meet the test either.

I hate you so much right now.

Because I'm beautiful, right, absent from the festivities on Saturday or some combination of the three?

I hope you played my profanity-laced voicemail on speakerphone and your children were traumatized.

But only temporarily traumatized, cuz it ain't cool to jank on a man's chirrens, right?

That is really funny, because the number you for me had now belongs to someone else, but he is too stupid to change the voicemail prompts, so it still sounds like you're getting me when you call that number.

Well then I hope his kids are traumatized and he blames you.

Gee, TM has decreed a new test to be an Auburn fan. Wish I could do that.... ;)

Ok, where in the frick did you read anything about a new test for Auburn fans? I said nothing about fans.

Being a fan of a team and naming a portion of a building after someone are two completely unrelated issues. You've reached into your political forum bag of tricks and deflected the issue into something completely different.

Was Fyffe a large financial supporter of Auburn athletics? Probably, but not on the scale of a Lowder or a Saia.

Was he a graduate? No.

Was he an employee? If you want to get into technicalities and such, you might be able to infer that Auburn University approved of his employment with the Auburn Network and he was a de facto employee of the school, but the simplest answer is no.

Don't put words in my posts and make me look like an ass. I can do that quite well on my own.

This was done by Auburn shortly after Jim died. Much better than naming a press box in his honor in my opinion. This can actually make a difference in people's lives.

AUBURN UNIVERSITY-- The late Jim Fyffe, "Voice of the Tigers" for 23 years, will continue to influence Auburn fans and alumni through a newly created diabetes research fund bearing his name. Fyffe suffered from diabetes and died suddenly of a brain aneurysm in May 2003.

The Jim Fyffe Diabetes Research Fund at Auburn University will honor the longtime broadcaster by supporting graduate students conducting diabetes research and by providing funding for diabetes research projects. The fund has been established by Auburn University, Auburn Network and Jim Fyffe's widow, Rose Fyffe.

"In talking with the university and his family, we felt this would be a great way to honor Jim and help others who are searching for a cure to this disease," said Jon Cole, vice president of Auburn Network.

Donations will go toward diabetes research in the College of Veterinary Medicine's Boshell Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases Research Program, which studies diseases that affect both humans and animals. The program is funded through an endowment established in 1995 by the National Diabetes Association, formerly the Diabetes Trust Fund, in honor of its founder, the late Dr. Buris R. Boshell, a noted diabetes researcher who attended the veterinary college before enrolling in medical school.

"Jim Fyffe's life and untimely death have greatly increased public awareness of the devastating reality of diabetes," said Dr. Robert Judd, the AU Boshell chair. "I was always impressed with Jim's love for Auburn and for his devotion to finding a cure for diabetes."

The university will have a special half-time tribute to Fyffe during the Aug. 30 game with Southern Cal.

"We also plan to use all of Auburn Network's resources such as radio, television, print and the Web site to generate interest and support for this fund," Cole said. "We are also re-releasing audio and video tributes about Jim, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the new fund."

The updated versions include Fyffe's 20th anniversary audio CD and a DVD-video highlighting Fyffe's career with never-before-seen video footage. In addition, any licensed product with Fyffe's name on it will generate funds through a portion of the royalties.

"Nothing would honor Jim more than having this diabetes research fund named for him," Rose Fyffe added. "He hated the disease, although he lived with it as successfully as he could. Diabetes finally took his life, but it didn't take his spirit. He will live on as long as these wonderful researchers are out there trying to find a cure."

Donations can be made to the Jim Fyffe Diabetes Research Fund and sent to the A.U. Foundation, 317 S. College St., Auburn, AL 36849.

Just a question here, BUT..... Why would the fact that he did not attend Auburn University disqualify him from being honored by the same?

To Auburn people, a lot of AU people anyway, Jim couild have stolen and idea from Gene Simmons (I AM INDY) and have marketed himself under the logo..."I AM AUBURN!"

Anyway, Jim WILL be remembered and honored so long as I live.

"My time is up, I thank you for yours."

W D E ! ! !
