A radio show host was talking about how Barry Bonds is the most scrutinized baseball player based on the assumption that he has taken steroids. Now, to the naked eye, it's obvious that he has taken some form of steroid or HGH or something to boost his ability to hit home runs. However, is Barry Bonds the only player to take steroids? In an era when baseball hadn't outlawed performance enhancing drugs and didn't even have a test to see who was taking them, is it not to be assumed that a large majority of baseball players were juicing? Need I bring up Sammy Sosa, Gary Sheffield, Rafael Palmeiro, Jason Giambi? How about pitchers who were caught juicing: Juan Rincon, Rafael Betancourt, Ryan Franklin, Carlos Almanzar, Felix Heredia, Juan Salas. Is it safe to assume that if Barry Bonds has been able to keep hitting home runs at 40 years old because of roids, then Roger Clemens has been able to come back year after year and be productive because of the same reason? How then can we criticize Barry's ability to hit home runs if he's been hitting them off of pitchers who have been taking the same performane enhancing drugs? Baseball doesn't stink because of Barry Bonds. Baseball stinks because in the past 15 years, all aspects of the game have been a fraud. What baseball player can you trust? It's not out of the realm of possibility that Ichiro gets to 3000 hits after being a 27-year-old MLB rookie...he's the kind of player you saw a lot more of 20-25 years ago.
