This is all i know...

Rookie running back Kenny Irons injured his left knee and ankle and was taken to the locker room on a cart after hobbling off the field. He had four carries for 17 yards, including an 11-yard gain, after replacing Johnson.

The second-round pick from Auburn was hurt when his foot appeared to get caught up in the artificial turf while making a stutter-step move. Kenny Watson, Quincy Wilson and rookie Curtis Brown shared the carries after Irons left the game.

a cart....that dosent sound good.

Rookie RB leaves game

The one moment of true angst came earlier in the game when rookie running back Kenny Irons limped off the field on his left ankle after a seven-yard run and was then carted from the sidelines with unspecified left knee and ankle injuries after picking up 17 yards on four carries.

Lewis told reporters after the game it's a significant knee injury and there will an MRI tomorrow. The fear of course, is that Irons may have suffered a season-ending anterior cruciate injury.

When Irons went down it conjured up memories of Ki-Jana Carter's injury on his third carry as a Bengal in his first game at Detroit 12 years ago. Irons got hurt on his fourth carry.

looks like he suffered a major injury....praying that its not a season ending injury for kenny..

12:35 p.m.

The Bengals' worst fears were realized Friday when an MRI revealed that rookie running back Kenny Irons is lost for the season with a tear of his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, extending a horrifying streak of bad luck when it comes to their running backs that began with a similar injury to Ickey Woods in 1989.

The club said in a news release that a full recovery is expected and that Irons should be ready to participate in next spring's workouts.

Irons, a second-rounder out of Auburn, had been one of the stars of the preseason in jetting to 64 yards on 10 carries in last week's intrasquad scrimmage. And flashing perimeter speed they thought would be just the right complement to Rudi Johnson's inside game, Irons had just ripped off an 11-yard gain in Thursday's preseason opener in Detroit before getting hurt on his fourth carry of the game. At the end of that seven-yard run, Irons limped off the field.

The irony of Irons' situation is chilling. In a 1995 preseason game in Detroit against the Lions, running back Ki-Jana Carter, the NFL's overall No. 1 draft pick, tore his ACL on the third carry of his career.

The Bengals drafted Irons to give them what 2004 first-rounder Chris Perry hasn't been able to give them because of his own injury problems. Perry hasn't been on campus at Georgetown College as he rehabs from ankle surgery and plans to start his second straight season on the physically unable to perform list. The PUP takes him out of practice for the first five games and six weeks of the regular-season. In 2005, his one healthy season, he averaged 4.6 yards per carry and nearly broke the club record for catches by a running back with 51. But he has played in only 22 games of a possible 49.

This is more than you all want to know but I'm an Auburn grad and from Cincinnati and so this is a huge blow for me in two ways. Anyway 12 years ago in a pre season game up in Detroit Ki Jana Carter our #1 pick in 1995 tore his ACL as well so this is total deja vu. The field turf is not the same as it was back then but I'm a huge skeptic of that stuff....Grass is the way to go. God Bless KI on a speedy recovery. The Bengals were counting on him big since Chris Perry will be out for another two months. Get better and come back stronger next year KI. WDE

I'll tell all of you right now that really sucks. In 05 my 12 yr old daughter met him after a game. Class guy. Took all the pics she wanted and was very nice. He was in no hurry. I'll always be a Kenny Irons fan. Get well Kenny, we love you.-302089-LT

302 got me thinking about last year at a practice where we had some access to meet the players as they came off the field. We could get pics, autographs and stuff and this one man had his young son with him, taking a lot of pics of him with various players. Carl Stewart stopped and knelt down with the kid while dad told his boy to "Smile and say Hi to Kenny Irons".

Stewart was not happy and KI made sure he heard about it all the way into the athletic complex. :P

i know there is really no good to come out of this but..

-rudi still was going to get the bulk this year.

-kenny still had some nagging injuries and this will give him plenty of time to completely heal up

-look at mcgahee for encouragement
