I have a friend that spent over a year in Africa and he was told by a local tribesman that buffalo kill more people than lions annually and the locals were more cautious around the buffalo than the lions...

Amazing how they knew as a group they could beat arguably the king/queen of the jungle. Although the crocs didn't have a problem.

When I was a kid I used to be crazy about all the African safari stories in my Dad's Outdoor Life. According to them the Cape Buffalo was by far the most dangerous of the big game animals in Africa (outside of the now illegal to hunt rhino). They are built like a tank and are fast, vicious, and intelligent. They have a nasty habit when wounded of running into the brush, making a 90 degree turn, and laying in wait for anything foolish enough to follow them in.
