DKW 86 8,097
Significant for changing the Iron Bowl to a Home and Home series in which we are 12-2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmA2DK1EnTI Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/39272-89-iron-bowl-video/ Share on other sites
mec814 0
That one event forever changed Auburn Football. It at least put Auburn on a level with Bama (so far its been above) and that is not likely to change in the near future. ProgRock 0
As far as I'm concerned it was the best game ever!!! I know the score was only 10 point margin but it felt like it was the greatest butt whoopin we've ever given to the mullet nation, even to this day.I think as soon as any Bama fan stepped into Jordan Hare that day,I think they could feel the defeat. CircleDrill 180
I will never forget at the end of the game, the air being absolutely filled with pieces of orange-and-blue paper streamers. It looked like a WWII ticker-tape victory parade except orange and blue. AUesquire 1
I've said this many times before. But, the thing that stood out to me, besides the significance of the game itself, was the overall atmosphere and constant, ear-piercing decibal level throughout the game. I have never been to ANY game, Auburn or otherwise that stayed that loud for that long. It could be mid 2nd quarter, Bama with the ball at their own 32. Second and seven. The time when most folks are settled in to their seats and taking in the action. You literally could not hear yourself scream. The Bama QB is complaining to the ref and having to call timeout. It was like a 2 1/2 hour Ted Nugent concert. It never stopped and continued all the way to Toomer's Corner. mec814 0
I have attended Auburn games since 1957 and 1989 still stands out as the best. I remember most bammers even personal friends were so sure of a big win they left the campus a complete wreck. SLAG-91 1,782
I have seen many tremendous football games in person, but I almost, no, strike that, I DID feel honored to be able to attend that game on December 2, 1989. StatTiger 3,188
Section 17, row 6, seat 8. Sat next to a Bama Grad from like the class of 46. He was a really nice gentleman, who bought AU season tickets just so he could be there for the Auburn game. At halftime, with Alabama holding the lead, he told me that Auburn would win the game because we were the more physical team. Look back at the first TD in the video and you will see we got away with 12 players on the field. IrishWarEagle 0
I am right there with ya JDub. I was six years old that day sitting in Section 12. I can remeber my dad driving us up in his Mazda RX7 and being so worried, and I just looked at him and said, Auburn is going to win, there was no doubt. I can't imagine now, with everything I have gone through with Auburn, if we played the game now how I would feel. I am a graduate as of Saturday and watching that 3 minutes of video brough tears. I love this school with all my heart and so happy to have been born in a time when 6 year old who are Bumma fans have never seen a Mullet victory over the better school. WAR EAGLE, Coach Dye for bringing those sorry sap suckers to us so we could beat them here, and thank you to Coach Tubbs, for doing in the times before Coach Dye would have been viewed as insanity. I say we don't just go for 6 this year...WE GET SIX! WAR DAMN EAGLE!!! You're welcome son. I know you and your sister will keep our AU family traditions alive when I'm watching from the Big Seats in the Sky.
