Closed Practice

Well tomorrow is the scrimmage at Jordan-Hare. These are sometimes open and sometimes closed (though they have been open the past year or two).

I'm sure the coaches have their reasons but it could just be that they are trying some new things that they'd prefer to not be advertised to the nation.

Well, regardless of what CTT may be telling people, I think closing the scrimmage would more then likely be one of two reasons.

Either CTT and staff have some exciting new stuff they are trying out or they may be so unhappy and pissed with what they are seeing so far, they don't want anybody else seeing a possibly embarrassing scrimmage. Let's hope it is the former, but either way, I think CTT has it under control.

You gotta think it might be both of those, but I'd bet its the former. Him and Ole' Gorgeous Borges probably have a couple of new formations and plays they want to keep under wraps for the time being, until we unleash them unto the world.

I'm trying not to get upset about hearing all the negative talk coming from the coaches about lack of intensity and focus in the guys. It's been a week and two days since practice started, and the heat is rough. I also remember this time last year, we all heard about the mounting injuries and problems, and we started to get nervous, but its just part of practice.

We'll be fine. Tuberville knows how to motivate his players for combat.

Speaking of "Gorgeous Borges," anyone have a pic of those funny T-Shirts they did last year? Anyone know what I'm talking about? Sorry to be off topic.

I wouldn’t read too much into the fact that practice is closed. According to Coach Steve Spurrier’s comments at the SEC media days it’s more the norm nowsdays to close most practices.

Q. With the Internet today and technology like camera phones, are football coaches more paranoid than ever about stuff in practice getting out? Has it changed over the years?

COACH SPURRIER: Oh, it's definitely changed to where most all of us are closing practice. In fact, this year we're pretty much going to close practice. But we're going to open it up for some scrimmages at times so our fans can come watch practice. Normally, though, it's going to be closed, just like about everyone else is doing.

We believe it's important to have at least one or two a week where maybe the fans can come watch, those that want to. But it's important to close them up nowadays, yeah.
