Redshirt Kodi Burns?

What do you do with Kodi Burns if he keeps this play up another three weeks? Do you redshirt him or do you play him like Tim Tebow at Florida last year. That's a tough call. I almost wish they'd redshirt him and give him the full four years.

I think if he's the second best QB we have (and it's looking that way) he should definately play this year. I have a feeling he's going to be the starter next year and if thats the case he needs some game experience.

Besides, if we redshirt Kodi we miss out on having a hilarious sounding QB tandem in Cox Burns.

If CB is the 2nd best qb on the team (big "if" after only first scrimage), then there shoiuldn't be doubt in any one's mind that CB has to play this year. If he is to be the possible starter next year, he needs PT this year. Starting a RSFr on the road would be a potential for disaster. Confidence needs to be built this year.

Don't use him like a "Tebow Style" QB - let him be his own QB. He isn't the same type of QB as Tebow. Hopefully we won't even need our 2nd string QB this year or ever

KB is the second best qb on the team, and there's no doubt in my mind he will be the starter next year. However, if he's solely going to go in for mop-up duty, I'd say Blake can do that without a problem.

Now if Cox goes down with an injury and we need someone to win ballgames, put him in.

From all indications, this kid is going to be the starter next year, barring some miraculous improvement in play from Field, Caudle or Ensminger. If he's the 2nd best guy we have, we need to get him some snaps this season and not make next year his first bit of meaningful playing time. Let him travel with the team and see and hear the large crowds on the road. Get him ready to be the man in 2008. If he's the 2nd best guy, a redshirt would be a waste.

Kodi is better than all the other backups on the team. Common sense tells us all that. It's not been a tight race because they were all awesome. It's been tight because, well, for other reasons. KB will play this season and anything else would be ludicrous.

Am I the only one who does not think he is a clear winner for the second place spot. He did well in one scrimmage. But you have to remember the defense is used to not being able to hit the qb so that has to affect it to some extent, especially since he is a running qb. I would count the others out, specifically Caudle. The injury may slow him down but if he settles in I think he'll be a great qb. Just saying I think we're jumping the gun at this point.

If he emerges as the number 2 QB he definately does not need to be redshirted. Cox had injury problems last year and really thoughout his whole playing career has had trouble with injuries, we need someone who can step in and do good if he goes down, not just someone to get us by. I truly think our backups other than Kodi are not that great, if they were they would have been playing last year when Cox had a bruise the size of a grapefruit on his leg, instead Cox had to push through it and we saw he was not the same QB last year as he was the year before. This all being said I really do think Cox could have a great year this year if he stays healthy, but it's always great to have another GOOD option at QB in case the starter goes down.

I think this is a no brainer. Unless we're grooming Blake Fields to be the starter next year (which is very unlikely), Kodi...or whomever is the projected started NEXT year...needs SOME real game playing time this year. It's hard to get playing experience when you're redshirted.

I agree...but COX had VERY LITTLE playing time in `04.
