DyeEraTiger 0
Looks like it. We and others may need to make adjustments. The following, regarding the updated 300 is from Scout: "Leading the way on the National Top 300 is the state of Texas with 41 players. California has 34 prospects listed while Florida has 31. The college team with the most is currently Notre Dame (15). Texas (13), UCLA (12), USC(11), Michigan (10) and Miami (10) all have ten or more, while Texas A&M, Ohio State and Oklahoma have nine and Georgia has eight. " The most amazing number regarding the National 300 is the number of commitments--185. That's over 60%. autkidd 0
I was talking to one of my friends... (who is coaching running backs at Faulkner University and has met and talked with Borges and Gran quite a bit and learning from them) about this whole early commit thing... He says that alot of these players won't stick with their first commit... but commit early so they have their name on the board... in case of an injury their sr. year or an unproductive year. He said not worry if we don't have the number of commits as other schools... He also said why worry if the coaches at AU aren't worrying right now... Your friends take from Gran and Borges makes sense. I'm not worried at all that our coaches don't know what they are doing. I have full confidence in them. Although, I am worried about the # of in state recruits--I'm confident that the players we sign will do well. CTT has proven over the years that he has an eye for talent and what it takes to be an Auburn Tiger. Many times, the MOST talented H.S. player doesn't pan out in the long run. CTT seems to have an inate ability to judge kids on the basis of character and talent. That's a balancing act that I feel that he does as well as anyone in the country. He's picked a lot of real winners on and off the field that didn't have all of the stars. CTT will put together a strong class. He knows how to pull it off before signing day. I really don't care if it's top 25, 50 or whatever--other than the positive pub that it would provide. SouthLink02 8
I disagree greatly that "most" will change their committment. A high, high majority will in fact stick to their committment. It's just that the 15%-20% (at the highest, imo) that do switch will get the most amount of news and those getting screwed will make the loudest voice. Some guy from Rivals main office in Brentwood was on UGASports Podcast the other night and said that he finds almost 85%-90% of kids STICK to their committment if they committ 8-10 months before signing day or earlier. Granted, UGA has had 2 kids already decommit this off-season and rumors say another may be on the way so UGA is probably hurting my own argument But, I will take as many early committments as possible because chances are...they will stick. AU alum 2
I think 50% or LESS with stick with their verbal. LESS, I would guess. Like that coach said, they are just trying to get their names on board, just in case there is an injury in their senior season, or a less than stellar season. Makes sense to me. AU Alum--Are you saying you believe that 50% or less of all verbal commit's will stick with their commitment come signing day of early commits or %50% or less of AU's early commits? Either way, I think your number is way low. Time will tell... but I figure 75-80% on average across all schools will stick to their early commit. Regardless, I feel like there can be some advantage to schools waiting the season out a while and watching how these kids progress. There can be a lot of movement in either direction with a kids desire, effort and work ethic. The early commit deal may not be all that it's cracked up to be. At least not every time. Some are no brainers I'm sure. Julio comes to mind. But Dee, I don't know. I'm sure we would have taken him had he chose us but I understand there have been some off field issues in the past. I hope for his sake they will continue to be in the past. Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/39353-earlycommits/#findComment-394916 Share on other sites
AUman43 5
It's hard to tell how many of them will "stick" because the internet has changed recruiting. This year is t he first year that I can recall when commits came this early in-mass. However, in recent years, the "stick" rate has been around 80-85 percent. About 15-20% change their minds. It's going to be interesting to see the trend develop this year because it will probably hold at least in the near future. WDE! BamaGrad03 0
Don't forget...an early verbal switching late in the game isn't always a bad thing. It's also possible they are looking at the other guys who are signing with that team and see the depth chart writing on the wall.
