auburn91 0
How many of you believe Auburn should retire Tracy Rocker's jersey? I certainly do. I'm not sure why it hasn't happened yet. He won every award a defensive lineman could collect. Is there a part of the story that I'm maybe missing? I'd like to hear your thoughts. AUesquire 1
You know, it's amazing how I never really thought along those lines or that there's never been much discussion about it. When you put his career in perspective, you have to ask what more could he or any lineman accomplish that eclipses his career at AU. It may be because of him not getting the opportunity to make a name for himself in the NFL. But, as far as a defensive player on the college level, he did it all. You'd get no argument out of me for retiring #74. Right off the top of my head, I can't think of who has worn #74 since Rocker that stood out. Dang, seems like it's already retired. Wayne Gandy wore #74 as well. He was an All-American and 1st round draft choice of the LA Rams.I’m not against retiring Rocker’s #74 but I feel if you retire someone’s number that no one should wear it after their playing days are over. I defiantly think he deserves to have his number retired considering his performance, honors, and awards during his career. I wasn’t around when Sullivan’s #7 and Beasley’s #88 were retired so I don’t know what the procedure was. However I was around during the Bo Jackson era and do know that no one else ever wore #34 after Bo. Even though no one wore #34 it wasn’t officially retired until 1992 (vs. Arkansas on Halloween) during Auburn’s centennial season. SKCAUB 0
YES!!! Greatest D-lineman to ever play at AU, and one of the best EVER, period. Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/39395-retire-rockers-jersey/#findComment-395086 Share on other sites
WAR EAGLE!!! 0
If I didn't know him as a person I would say it is fine to do it. But knowing him as a person and a coach, not just a football player, I would say "No way in Hell". ProgRock 0
I think something that really helped Tracy, was the fact that Ron Stalworth and Benji Roland was on that line too...right?I thought these guys were monsters as well.I think they should retire his jersey, but I'm just wondering if he played on one of our poorer D lines through the years if he would have had as much success.I guess I'm just giving some credt to Stalworth and Roland as well. That was the best d line in Auburn history IMO.
