Scrimmage may help coaches with depth chart

AUBURN - The stands will be all but empty when Auburn's football team scrimmages at Jordan-Hare Stadium tonight. There will be no television cameras. Reporters will have to wait outside.

But second-year defensive coordinator Will Muschamp says every snap taken on that field should be something special for Auburn football players.

"Anytime you walk in that stadium," Muschamp said, "you have to play well. We need to learn that every time you go over there, you cherish the opportunity."

All lovers of AU football have to like the way Muschamp is teaching our players. This is the sort of thing that when learned will pay big dividends.

Borges says what he sees tonight will answer even more questions.

"I want to see where we are in regards to pitch and catch," Borges said. "If the protection is there and the receivers are open, are we completing the passes? If we aren't, why aren't we and do we need to make some personnel changes to accommodate that?

"I want to see us make the routine plays, and I want to find out if we have anybody on the flank that can make some big plays."

This is what I'm talking about!

You know, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Tuberville is grooming him for HC. Not that I'm ready for CT to retire!

It would surprise me if someone else didn't hire him as head coach before CT is ready to retire. I am just pleased for the time we have him. CT has good record of hiring good assistants. I believe Muschamp is as good as it gets. His firey emotion that adds to it.

This type of intensity on defense in exactly what we need, everybody loves that old skool hard nose defense.

And this could turn out to be the best defense we've had under Coach Tubs.

:au::cheer:

I love his intensity and his approach. One article I read recently pointed how the players loved how he was so emotional and how he was much quicker with the compliment than criticism.

But ( here comes my black cloud response ), there's still a few kinks to iron out. Barring any more significant injuries, I think we have the 2-deep to have a GREAT defense. But things like the 06' Georgia game still worry me a bit. When 70,000 fans are screaming, "Watch out, here comes the 17th quarterback draw...." Even Pavlov's dog caught on after a while.

Personally, I think this year will tell the tale for CWM. He has the personnel and there's no question his D will have to carry this team early with a lot of new guys trying to gel on the offensive side of the ball. I see him getting it done. But occasionally, he may have to take a page out of CTT's 2nd half Florida game plan and say, "Yo Q, Tray..everyone listen up. See the guy with the ball? Yeah him. Go make his life miserable"

That may well happen. But, I'm betting if it does, he will get the nod to come back to Auburn to take over HC.

At this point in time, I too would have him on my short list.
