Scout vs. Rivals

:au: Afternoon everyone... :au:

I was considering signing up for one of the premium sources and wanted to get some opinions of whether Rivals or Scout is a better source [primarily for AU content], or if I shouldn't even bother at all. Both are 99.95 a year, but with scout you get a subscription to SI and another team magazine. Doesn't look like Rivals offers that.

Any past experience would be appreciated.

This question comes up from time to time. The consensus here seems to be that Rivals stomps Scout in terms of recruiting news. They are probably about even in terms of Auburn content aside from recruiting. I don't like Rivals message board format as much, but neither are anything to write home about.

I'll add my two cents:

Don't waste your money on either. Essentially all you are paying for is the timing of information. This gap used to be pretty signicant however it has narrowed considerably in recent years. Several sites are responsible for this including AUNation.net, al.com and others. Bottom line, if you want the information - it is out there without having to pay for it.

As far as the message boards go - there is usually a small handful of credible/inside posters on each site - but even there information appears to be drying up as the boards are too monitored and too easily accessible by the masses now.

Essentially the only thing left you are paying for is the videos (recruits highlights, etc) however, services such as YouTube are making this feature "non premium" as well.

Honestly, I think these sites have peaked and have a huge problem going forward - once people realize there are alternate "free" mediums out there, they are not going ot continue to pay for inormation that's elsewhere.

I personally wouldn't subscribe to either one. Like someone here already mentioned, its just to get info a few hours ahead of everybody else. Nothing major, and the subscription to SI is enough to permanently refuse scout forever. SI is possibly the WORST sports magazine EVER... I will give them their due, though, they do have some of the best photographers. Other than that... :puke:
