Who's your heisman front runner? Who's your darkhorse?

I actually have Colt Brennan as my front runner.

Darkhorse is Brian Brohm

I'm not sure how much of a dark horse Brennan is considering I think he was 6th or 7th in voting last year.

I think the top three will be DMac, Pat White and Brian Brohm at years end. I think Brohm has the talent and plays in the system to have the consistency to win it.

As far as dark horse. I'd say Glenn Dorsey. He's as talented a defensive player as I've seen in a few years. I certainly don't think he'll win it, but I woudln't be surprised for him to make the top 5 and be in NY.

Front-runner: DMac

Dark Horse-Brian Brohm or Ray Rice

Brennan is out on a limb compared to the others cuz of his school, even if the rainbow warriors go undafeated he will still be overlooked.

DMac already has a website for his heisman run

DMac 4 heisman

I think b/c of the media frenzy that surrounds WVU and company, it may be hard for DMac to say in the hunt, unless they trample thru their schedule and he puts up crazy scary numbers on all of the SEC. Booty will be in the talk by the 3rd game of the year if they get by Nebraska, then the ESPN bobble heads will be in discussion b/t him and White or Slaton. Count on it!!!!! Not fair, but we all know about fair in college football.

McFadden is certainly the one that stands out. However, I don't think he'll be successful enough to win the heisman trophy. The reason. Arkansas can't throw the ball effectively. Stop the run and you beat arkansas. Period. Defenses are gonna stack the line because they KNOW that arkansas will run the ball. Mcfadden will get his yards and have some great games, but I don't think it will be enough to win the heisman. Because of their one dimensional offense, arkansas loses at least 3 games. Those 3 losses will hurt him too...

Frontrunner-- no contest, J.D. Booty, QB, USC. It's not that I think he is the best player, but the Trojans are going to remain #1 throughout the regular season and will breeze into the title game. The media has already started the full court press to make Booty the frontrunner, and it is going to take a spectacular season by anyone else to knock him out of the top slot. However, Booty won't look like a trophy winner in the title game, just like Troy Smith didn't.

Dark Horse-- Glenn Dorsey, DL, LSU. Dorsey and Darren McFadden are the two best players in the SEC, but let's see what happens when Dorsey and McFadden meet on the field. I bet Dorsey gets the upper hand there. LSU makes it to the title game, and let's see who makes the biggest difference, Dorsey or Booty. I say Booty better put Brodie Croyle on speed dial right now, to learn how to deal with the beatdown coming.

Who deserves it the most? Hard to say in the preseason, but if Ray Rice, RB, Rutgers or Colt Brennan, QB, Hawaii can lead their teams to an undefeated season and a BCS bowl game, then I think they have done more to elevate their programs from mediocrity to respectability than Booty, McFadden, Slanton, Brohm, etc and deserve serious consideration.

-Absent injuries, Erick Ainge (TN) wins it when TN beats us in the SEC champioship game. He's got it all, good skills (now), good surrounding team (w/ RBs & an Oline he can count on), personal interest "come back" story, a winnable schedule w/ winnable nationally televised games people will watch, etc.

- Soph. RB PJ Hill ona very good Wisco team is this year's runner up.

DMac won't win it because this year all you have to do is shut down DMac to beat Arky

Mainstream media (read NYC & West Coast) will not LET a player from Hawaii or Rutgers win it

Booty's best games so far have generally not been the ones on national TV. I'm guessing he gets embarassed @ Notre Dame this year, which has a history of throttling heisman candidates on its home turf (although Charlie Ward sucked, lost @ ND and won the thing that year anyway). But most of all, the media will be wary of looking biased if it gives ANOTHER heisman to USC so soon.

Brohm can't do it w/ out Petrino's brilliance

Did somebody on this board actually pick a DL to win it? If DE Hugh Green didn't win it @ Pitt, NO DL will ever win it

THe Hesiman has become nothing more than the `best team's best player Award'....Booty wins if USC goes undefeated no matter how many yards McFadden has on a multi-loss Razorback squad....

Gets it.

2006 - Troy Smith on the greatest team of all time before playing an SEC team.

2005 - Reggie Bush on the greatest team of all time before playing in the National Championship.

2004 - Matt Leinart on the National Championship team.

2003 - Jason White on the greatest team of all time before playing an SEC team.

I'm sorry, but I think playing for a dominant team like these guys did should HURT your Heisman chances. Your stats are easily boosted when you are surrounded by talent. Example - Troy Smith. Does Troy Smith go undefeated in a regular season at a school like Michigan St? Nope...thanks to that good defense and a slew of speedy receivers, Troy Smith was able to look phenomenal all year without any reason to question it. I think Reggie Bush deserved the Heisman but any arguments for Vince Young are easily understood. Both of those guys were essential to their teams - Young more than Bush. However, I think Bush won a few games by himself for USC (Oregon St, UCLA, Fresno St). Also, just the fact that he was in the backfield could throw defensive gameplans for a loop opening up the rest of the offense.

Anyways, enough rambling. If USC goes undefeated or gets into the title game, Booty wins it. I think McFadden will deserve it, but being on a 3 or 4 loss team doesn't get votes. The darkhorse is Erik Ainge, folks. If Tennessee can somehow run the table in the SEC, Ainge will get a LOT of credit for it.

Who can put up ungodly numbers while having an undefeated or near spotless record?

Front runner: Colt Brennan, Hawayur

Dark Horse: Ian Johnson, BSU

frontrunner has to be mcfadden. he's the guy getting all the preseason talk (on the contrary of what someone else said... arkansas had 5 straight articles in 5 days this summer, and dmac has an article up right now on espn), and he's the best player in the country. always helps the be the best running back in the sec since bo jackson (i believe this) when you're trying to deal with hype.

most likely winners: booty, slaton, brohm, or brennan. their teams have easier rows to hoe in order to win them all, and that's almost a prerequisite right now.

my darkhorse would be desean jackson (the charles woodson of this year's pool... not really a "best player in the country" type of guy, but he'll have great highlights) or ray rice (not even close to the best player at his position, but if he gets them to a conference title in the new york market, look out).
