Gameday in Auburn...

Obviously a school and college town with the rich history and tradition as Auburn has to have some "must see" places... I've already been told to get a lemonade at Toomer's... (is the drug store still there) ??

And I'm not 100% sure where I'll be tailgating, either... so we're open to suggestions there as well.

We'll be driving in from Columbus, GA sometime that afternoon, but an 8:15pm kickoff makes for a lot of time to tailgate and see the sights.

Thanks for your help, Auburn fans...

Jim,

If you want to try out a good sandwich place, try Mama Goldberg's Deli. Great atmosphere and sandwiches. Of course, if you tailgate, that might not be a good suggestion. I'm not a drinker (translation: I don't hit bars/nightclubs at all), and I'm also a father of a college student (translation: funds are limited), so I don't hit lots of places in town except family restaurants. Sorry.

As for pre-game activities, you might enjoy watching Tiger Walk (5:50 pm) at the southwest corner of the stadium. You also might enjoy watching the AU band and cheerleaders at the 4 corners pep rally (6:30ish) at the same location. I realize you are a USF fan, but some visiting fans still enjoy watching these activities. Be sure to be in your seat in time to see the eagle fly. At least, we hope he (she?) will fly. Evidently the weather kept the eagle flight from happening last week.

Maybe others can help more. Enjoy your visit to the Loveliest Village.

You may want to stop at Chuck's in Opelika for some BBQ pork sandwiches. Very unique style of cue to the central Alabama/Georgia area.

We have had a few other threads on the topic so here they are:

Food For Tailgating

Places to watch game outside stadium?

And you must get a little Love from Momma.

just curious on the policy of bringing a camera is? I've known people to take theirs, but I've read one place you're allowed to bring it, and on another that you're not.

I've never had problems bringing in my camera to take pictures of my favorite cheerleader.

The Game Day Experiences thread has some good stuff in it.

Here is my basic "must see" for a newcomer to Auburn:

1. Arrive several hours early so you can soak up the atmosphere.

2. Go to Toomer's Drugstore for some lemonade.

3. Tailgate and/or eat at Momma Goldberg's Deli

4. Walk around campus. It is a nice one. Samford Hall is our most famous (non-sports) building. Walk down Thach and see Ross Hall, Mary Martin Hall, Cater Hall, etc.

5. Tiger Walk. The football players walk to the stadium through a crowd of fans. Lots of schools do this, but we were one of the first.

6. Watch the eagle fly. Get to your seats early: allow plenty of time for security, etc. This one is really worth doing. Very cool.

7. If Auburn wins, go to Toomer's corner to watch the festivities (although you may not feel like doing this since an Auburn win would mean a USF loss).

Most Auburn fans are friendly (unless we are playing Bama). If you wear your USF gear, but don't act like a jerk I think people will be happy to talk to you, invite you to join their tailgate, etc.

Have a good trip.

You need to figure out something to say when lots of random people just yell 'war eagle' at you when you are walking by. i went with 'chiefs', 'war bill snyder' or 'peace falcon'. this way you will not be the only one that is confused. a fun thing to do is when you are talking to auburn fans, and you will most of them are very nice, ask them the story on the war eale thing. i got like 5 different stories.

Did this include alternate spellings of eagle?

Well, we aren't UAT fans... :homer:

So we'll probably keep it simple with "Go Bulls" ... as well as "Good luck"...

USF fans, especially those who travel, are generally well behaved guests... a little ribbing here and there... but usually we like to kick back a few beers and talk about football.

Also.....Don't forget to stop by Cheeburger Cheeburger, up the road from Toomer's Corner, after the game... If Auburn wins there will be a couple fans yelling "War Eagle" at you and your buddies, the best thing to do is to smile and wave back... Mainly so you wont start a fight, because some of those people will be Completely Blitz by 0100. But, all in all, we treat the opposing team like family... That is unless you try talking trash (Read.....don't start off by saying, "yall ready for a beating?") or wear anything Red :puke::ua: .
